This fascinating expedition provides a taste of everything Spitsbergen—the largest island in the Svalbard archipelago—has to offer. It’s also known as the “Wildlife Capital of the Arctic,” and we’ll show you why on this 10-day itinerary, which offers multiple departures—except for one extended 12-day voyage. Spotting Arctic wildlife will be a key focus of this expedition. Just imagine photographing walrus, reindeer, and that most iconic of Arctic denizens—the polar bear—all while marveling at the surreal spectacle of continuous daylight. On this exciting introductory journey, you’ll explore the unique Arctic landscape, hike the vast and colorful tundra, and learn about the history and geology of this remote Norwegian Arctic island. Our polar-obsessed guides will be on hand to answer all your questions about local wildlife. You have two ship options for this voyage: Ultramarine, our technologically advanced polar vessel that can access remote places most larger ships can’t reach; and our newest ship, the state-of-the-art Ocean Explorer.
This 14-day journey offers the most extensive exploration of Spitsbergen in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, including the opportunity to witness iconic Arctic wildlife like walrus, reindeer and polar bears, a glimpse into 16th-century maritime culture at secluded landing sites, and the rare chance to appreciate breathtaking views at the birdwatching utopias 14th of July Glacier and Alkefjellet. If conditions allow, we will also attempt a full circumnavigation of the archipelago, which is considered a rite of passage for many Arctic enthusiastists. The wildlife-viewing opportunities on this trip will leave you with plenty of memories and photos: the walrus with its long tusks and distinctive whiskers; Arctic birds in all their varied majesty; small herds of reindeer loping across the tundra; and that most iconic of Arctic creatures, the polar bear, as it roams the edges of the pack ice. Shore excursions by Zodiac will enable you to explore places where few humans have ever set foot. This voyage truly is the big adventure you’ve been waiting for.
Our 11 (or 12) day Svalbard in Spring: Sea Ice, Pristine Snow and Wildlife is a rare opportunity to visit the Norwegian High Arctic when Svalbard is bathed in 24 hours of daylight, yet the landscape remains entrenched in its snow-clad Arctic splendor. Entire mountains are still cloaked in snow and expansive sea ice, including fast ice. You have the unique privilege of witnessing the Arctic “waking up.” Birds arrive, filling the silence with their calls. Meltwater begins to trickle, ice cracks and pops, and the ground starts to thaw. Tiny shoots may appear through the melting snow—a quiet yet grand rebirth unfolding, echoing life’s cycle on an Arctic scale.
Experience the thrill of a lifetime—a complete circumnavigation of Iceland, the legendary Land of Fire and Ice. Our 12-day Iceland Circumnavigation: Mountains, Volcanoes and Waterfalls takes you around the entire island nation, starting and ending in Reykjavik. Explore by small polar ship, Zodiac, kayak, on foot, and occasionally by coach, as you witness thundering waterfalls, vast glaciers, erupting geysers, volcanic cliffs, and remote wild coasts. Cross the Arctic Circle, spot iconic puffins, marvel at Vatnajökull Glacier, and photograph Dettifoss—Europe’s most powerful waterfall.
Explore one of the last unspoiled wilderness areas on the planet—while experiencing 24 hours of daylight. On our 11-day Northeast Greenland: Glaciers and Fjords itinerary, you’ll cruise along Greenland’s remote northeast coast—home to the world’s largest fjord system—and witness its diverse, rugged landscapes. You’ll experience Greenlandic culture at Ittoqqortoormiit, visit ancient Thule sites, and marvel at massive icebergs and jagged peaks in the Land of the Midnight Sun. The magic of this voyage is exploring Greenland’s wild northeast while it’s bathed in endless summer light.
Our 11-day West Greenland: Discovering Massive Icebergs and Inuit Communities, Southbound is for travelers seeking a journey dedicated exclusively to West Greenland. This is one of our most in-depth explorations of Eternity Fjord. You’ll also explore Ilulissat, Eqip Sermia and Uummannaq—West Greenland’s crown jewels of ice and stone—all in a single trip. Thanks to our local partnerships, we’ll take you beyond the guidebooks for truly immersive experiences. Plus, you’ll cross the Arctic Circle.
