Our trip was absolutely wonderful! I would like to thank our tour guide, for taking great care of everything. We had something planned every day and the group that travelled with us was so friendly. Everything worked out beautifully. We made memories that will last a lifetime!
The trip was awesome! Got to stay for 2 nights in most of the places we went which was good as it felt more relaxed while we were on the trip, however you keep finding that it's never enough time in certain places, so it is a good taster for seeing different cities and figuring out places you would like to see more of later. We did all find that we got sick during the trip, because of the time spent together in the coach and the constant late nights and early mornings so watch out for that.
Received excellent service and suggestions for a tour we planned for our son and daughter when they toured the Amalfi Coast in August. Hotels were all in great locations close to the action and all excellent 4 or 5 star. Would definitely use or recommend the tour operator to friends or family.
Our recent bike trip from Venice to Florence was terrific. Viewing the countryside by bike was fun. Each days ride was different. I thought day 2 was the hardest. My sit bones were very sore despite the bike shorts. it was a bumpy gravel long ride. Day 3 and on out got easier.
An extremely well thought-out and organized trip that catered to people from different backgrounds and of different interests. The accommodation, itinerary, and order of activities all made sense, and the staff took all of the stress out of travel to maximise the fun.
We loved everything about this trip! We did it in the relatively cooler month of late October and it was perfect! We arrived to pick up our bikes and were issued bikes in excellent condition, with great instructions and repair gear and we had no issues at all with them. The accommodation organised for us was as described; not 5 star but always cute and very clean with great breakfasts provided and lovely people meeting us at the end of each day. Our bags were always there when we arrived. The navigation app was fantastic; we had a bit of a learning curve on Day 1 but then no problems at all. The loop we did was amazing. Would highly recommend the Sierra De Grazalema - gorgeous villages, amazing views, and minimal traffic. We would highly recommend this trip. It exceeded our expectations.
Your meeting point for the start of the tour is from the Siena train station (in front of pharmacy) at 9:00am. Give your mind a peaceful rest from the noise of the crowded towns, follow your expert guide on a pleasant walk along the Via Francigena, an ancient pilgrim route for the first time plotted down by the Archbishop ‘Sigeric the serious’ of Cantebury on his return from Rome in the 9th century and considered the main artery to Rome throughout the middle ages.
This route, that has for centuries been a highway of men and emotions, a spiritual pilgrimage and a wealthy trade route, has been forgotten and almost entirely relegated to history by the modern paved car roads. Only recently the route has been brought back from the grip of modernity and is today enjoyed by many pilgrims and hikers alike. Experience the beauty of the mixture between the Tuscan countryside and the glory of its medieval past, still present in its wonderfully preserved castles, villages and ruins.
See the Tuscany you would never want to miss before returning home, pass through forests and fields, vineyards and olive groves from Siena to the imposing fortress of Monteriggioni. A medieval walled town located on a natural hillock, built by the Sienese in the thirteenth century as a bastion of defense in their wars against Florence. It withstood many attacks from both the Florentines and the forces of the Bishop of Volterra until in an act of reconciliation with the Medicis, the town’s captain simply handed the keys of the town over to the Medicean forces - considered a "great betrayal" by the town's people. Once in Monteriggioni, you will enjoy a guided tasting of local organic wines before saying goodbye to your guide for the end of the tour. Feel free to explore the village and the surrounding area at your own pace.
You will be given a bus ticket to return to Siena at your own leisure. There are frequent buses departing from the nearby bus stop so you can return to Siena right away or enjoy lunch in Monteriggioni and return to Siena later in the afternoon.
The hiking tour is suitable for anyone in good physical condition and with experience in long walks. It is highly recommended you wear comfortable clothes and shoes, to bring water, a hat and in summer, sun cream.
We had a most wonderful day, our best tour yet in Spain. Our guide Javier, and our driver Enrique welcomed and treated us as friends from the moment of our pickup. Our day was very informative not only on the Villages we visited but on Spanish culture and life in the cities and countryside.
The white Villages were just so different from anything we have ever seen and so pleased we chose to do this tour. Thank you Javier and Enrique for making our day unforgettable. This area is certainly a treasure not to be missed.
Discover the Tuscan countryside and culture on this 8-day self-guided walking tour. Through the extensive footpath network of the area, roughly following the traces of the Via Francigena, one of Europe’s most important ‘highways’ in medieval times, you walk from village to village and experience a full immersion in the world-famous Tuscan landscape. The tour is perfect as an introduction to the region and a great choice for people who love museums, galleries and Gothic and Romanesque architecture. You have plenty of time to visit attractions on most of the days.
You will also have time to visit all the beautiful medieval villages and historic towns along the Via Francigena: starting from beautiful Lucca, you’ll pass through Fucecchio, San Miniato, Gambassi Terme, the stunning San Gimignano with its medieval skyscrapers and Monteriggioni, admired by Dante in his Divine Comedy. An optional detour can bring you to beautiful Colle Val d’Elsa and the tour ends in Siena, arguably the most perfectly preserved medieval town in Tuscany. This tour threads together some of the most attractive towns and villages in Tuscany in an eloquent procession.
However, the emphasis of the tour is to enjoy the countryside, the rolling vineyards, the poppies in spring and the wild cyclamen in autumn. The area north of Siena is an amazing landscape of rolling hills, alternating vineyards and forests, while cypresses line the way leading to the distant farmhouses. Walking here is an unforgettable experience and many of the views have barely changed for hundreds of years.
Accommodation and some meals are included. You spend a night in one of the best agriturismos in Tuscany, and the final night in the heart of Siena, in one of the most characteristic little hotels.
This is a moderately easy tour which is suitable for those who have some experience of walking and a good general physical condition.
