Discover a quieter side of Africa’s tallest peak with the 6-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Rongai Route tour package. Approaching Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern border of Tanzania and Kenya, this trek offers experienced adventurers a unique ascent far from the crowds. The Rongai route is celebrated for its tranquil trails and pristine wilderness, giving climbers the rare chance to experience Kilimanjaro’s beauty in relative solitude, especially before it merges with the more popular Marangu route near Kibo Hut.
Ideal for those seeking a less trafficked path or for travelers preferring gentler ascents, the Rongai trek is notably less steep than other options, while still maintaining a sense of adventure by using tents rather than huts. The journey traverses untouched rainforest and remote landscapes, offering a striking—if less varied—scenery compared to the Machame or Lemosho routes. One of the route’s key advantages is its drier climate, making it an excellent choice for those tackling Kilimanjaro during the rainy season.
Sleep under the stars in your tent each night, surrounded by the wild, and enjoy a sense of accomplishment as you traverse this lesser-known, serene trail. The unique selling point of this trip is the opportunity to climb Africa’s highest summit away from the hustle, enjoying both the sense of isolation and the raw beauty of Kilimanjaro’s northern face. Perfect for experienced travelers eager for a more peaceful, yet equally rewarding, trekking experience.
Escape the crowds and discover the quieter side of Africa’s tallest peak with the 8-Day Tanzania Holiday Kilimanjaro Climbing Rongai Route. Perfect for young adults and experienced trekkers eager for something different, this tour approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, offering diverse scenery and occasional wildlife sightings as you move from farmland and forest to alpine desert.
The Rongai route’s gentle ascent ensures more comfortable trekking and better acclimatization, enhancing your summit success rate. Traverse multiple climate zones and enjoy the serenity of less-traveled paths, all while absorbing the ever-changing beauty of the mountain.
The unique selling point of this trekking tour is its rare perspective on Kilimanjaro, blending solitude, scenic variety, and a rewarding sense of discovery for those looking to experience the mountain in a new light.

Venture off the well-trodden path with the 8 Day Mt. Kilimanjaro Trek via the Rongai Route, a unique journey that approaches Africa’s tallest peak from its remote northeastern flank bordering Kenya. This route, prized for its sense of unspoiled wilderness, offers trekkers a rare perspective of Kilimanjaro. While the Rongai ascent doesn’t allow for the typical ‘climb high, sleep low’ principle (making an extra acclimatization day advisable), it rewards with solitude and stunning vistas. The trek culminates on the classic Kibo summit path to Gilman’s Point before descending via the Marangu Route. This tour is ideal for hikers seeking a quieter, distinctive Kilimanjaro experience and for those eager to witness diverse landscapes and wildlife. Its USP: The Rongai Route’s tranquil trails, allowing for a more intimate connection with the mountain’s raw beauty.

Rongai route approaches Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern section of the mountain, not far from the Kenyan border. It is considered quite remote but has seen a surge in trekkers in recent years. On this route, the drive to the trailhead at Nale Moru is long but the road is tarmac most of the way. With a starting point in Arusha, the routes on the souther or western side are more popular because of accessibility. On this route, we camp at the base of Mawenzi Peak before walking across the Saddle to perch ourselves in the the busy camp of Kibo in readiness for the summit assault.
This route over 7 days allows for an extra night at Mawenzi Tarn with acclimatisation walks during the spare day. Doing this will increase the chance of successfully summiting Kilimanjaro.
