Our final major stop in mainland Greece is then to see the amazing cliiftop monasteries and breathtaking scenery of Meteora, before we head back to Athens.
We take to the ferry next and sail into the Aegean Sea to the volcanic island of Santorini. The island was created in its present form by a huge volcanic eruption over 3,500 years ago that created a large crater which is now filled by the sea forming a huge bay surrounded by steep cliffs and coloured lava pebble beaches. The island is full of small villages with narrow winding alleys and whitewashed buildings that are fascinating to hike through. There are also hot springs, wineries and the remaining active volcano itself to discover. We have a couple of days here to relax and explore the island before returning to Athens to finish our tour.

In the morning, walk around the city center and Skopje old bazaar with our experienced and professional tour guide. See some of the city's highlights, both old and new, including the Mother Theresa Memorial House and her statue at the main pedestrian zone in Skopje; Gate Macedonia and the main square in Skopje; the remains of the old Skopje railway station which is now a city museum; the Macedonian parliament and the iconic stone bridge. Also, pass by the new archeological museum, the Museum of Macedonian Struggle, the Holocaust museum, and the Church of St Spas (The Holy Salvation). Visit inside the Fortress Kale.
After the tour, at around 11 am, you will be picked up by our driver to visit Matka Valley. There are a lot of possibilities to escape from city life here, depending on your preference. Take a boat trip to the entrance of Cave Vrelo or alternatively, hop aboard a kayak or raft and see the Treska River canyon by water. Or simply walk along the lake and enjoy the nature. Explore a canyon littered with monasteries, medieval ruins, and natural caves by Lake Matka, Macedonia's first artificial lake. Do not miss to peek at the entrance of Cave Vrelo, one of the deepest underwater caves in Europe.
We'll have a coffee break at a nearby restaurant before heading back to Skopje.
