This was an excellent trip! We enjoyed living on the gulet, Admiral, and biking mountainous roads along the coast. The scenery was spectacular, our guide was excellent ( managing the logistics and safety of the bike riding and talking about Turkish history and the sites), and the food was amazing! Our trip was in mid October so the weather was very comfortable.

Set out on a grand sweep through the Iberian Peninsula with the Best of Spain and Portugal tour package, a relaxed, 14-day adventure designed for travelers eager to experience the Mediterranean’s most captivating cities and landscapes. Starting and ending in Madrid, this group journey weaves together the sophisticated boulevards of Spain’s capital, the stately bridges and port cellars of Porto, and the academic charm of Coimbra—home to one of Europe’s oldest universities and the birthplace of Fado music.
In Portugal, marvel at Gothic splendor in the Monastery of Batalha, savor coastal views in Nazaré, and stroll the grand avenues of Lisbon, exploring landmarks like Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery. Returning to Spain, wander the medieval streets of Caceres, witness Seville’s architectural brilliance in the Santa Cruz quarter, and unwind on the sun-drenched beaches of the Costa Del Sol.
Highlights include Granada’s Alhambra Palace, Toledo’s multicultural heritage, and a perfect blend of Christian, Moorish, and Jewish influences. With comfortable accommodations, expertly arranged transport, and included meals, the tour’s unique selling point is its comprehensive, seamless exploration of two countries’ intertwined histories and cultures. For those seeking a panoramic journey steeped in art, architecture, and culinary delights, this trip offers an unforgettable Mediterranean mosaic.

This trip was exactly what I needed. After years of family holidays and work trips, doing something like this — just me, my wife, a car, and no daily schedule, felt like a throwback to how we used to travel.
The best part? We weren’t herded around or stuck waiting for a big group. We just got in the car and drove. Some days we were super active, other days we just wandered and sat in cafes.
Croatia’s charm is obvious, but Slovenia really caught us off guard. The nature is pristine, the towns feel like no less than a fairytale, and even the touristy places don’t feel overwhelming. Also, it’s worth saying the roads were great, parking wasn’t a nightmare, and the car rental process was straightforward. That stuff matters when you’re not 25 anymore.
If you want a bit of culture, nature, good food, and a proper break from the usual routine this is your tour. We’re already talking about doing another self-drive next year. Portugal, maybe?

A trip like this depends on many factors especially the guide and travel companions. In this case we were so fortunate to have Fabio Giorlando as our exceptional guide. Our travel companions were terrific! The itinerary was varied and interesting. The family run businesses we visited warmly welcomed us and shared their stories and food/wine experiences.
The food and restaurant choices were enjoyable. It was very nice that Fabio arranged reservations at restaurants for the meals not covered by the tour making it easy for us to decide whether to eat there or elsewhere (we always ate there and the food and venue were always good.)
