More than a simple trip, our fifteen days in Nepal and Tibet were an unforgettable experience and a wonderful discovery. A very big thank you goes to this local tour operator and its Managing Director, Mr. Kaum Bahadur Subedi, who provided us with expert drivers (absolutely essential on the roads of Nepal) and guides with great expertise and experience. I want to especially mention Rem Raj Gurung who introduced us to the wonderful temples of Kathmandu, now all restored after the 2015 earthquake. A very useful exercise for me also who had visited those temples in the past.
Even more exciting was traveling across the Tibetan plateau. We entered from the border with Nepal - which in itself is an adventure - and we traveled the long way that leads to Lasha, crossing a powerful and unforgettable landscape. Along the plateau we had the Himalayas on the right with its snowy peaks (we also went to admire the north face of Everest with a half-day detour) and on the left another long chain of mountains that outlined a landscape that is hard to find the words to describe.
And then the unforgettable discovery for me, thanks to the guide that Mr Kaum made available to us for Tibet, a profound expert on the religiosity of the Tibetans. The discovery of a people who still live in a deep connection with their past and traditions: in religion, in clothing, in language. But I also found a genuine willingness towards foreigners. And we were among the few Westerners to visit the country.
We also have a beautiful memory of Lasha, a modern city that lives with a past whose strength still seems very alive.

This tour was great - included the two things we really wanted to see (the terracotta army and the Hanyangling Museum) and we also got a great lunch and a visit to a local farmer's "cave house" which was an interesting insight into how people live outside the big cities.
Michael is a great guide, he speaks very good English and is very knowledgeable about the history and background of the archeological sites. The car was very comfortable with a good driver and plenty of water available. All in all an excellent tour, I highly recommend this if you're visiting Xi'an - you'll have a great time!

Afterwards, make a brief stop at a local Chinese restaurant for a traditional Chinese lunch. Next, head to Meijiawu Tea Village located on a hill in the western part of Hangzhou. Inhabited by more than 500 households, Meijiawu Tea Culture Village is picturesque surrounded by mountains and waters. It is a main production base and protected area of the fragrant West Lake Dragon Well Tea. As a leisure tourist spot, it features tea culture in a farm style. After a full-day of sightseeing, you will be transferred back to Zhangjiajie to your choice of hotel, train station, airport or bus station.
There are lots of legends about the Bund in Shanghai, but how were the changes made to the farmlands into private wharf's and South-Asian style corridor built, eventually becoming an "international architectural exposition”? How was the westernized Public Park and the wide Yangtze Road built the Bund? Why did foreign consulates, Western firms and financial institutions setup their business right here? And why was the area called the Bund? Some of these answers are quite complex. On this tour we will reveal all secrets related to the famous The Bund.
We will visit the former Astor House Hotel which was the first western hotel in China but now part of a building which has been secretly changed to a huge compound with local Chinese living in old hotel rooms as their day to day family home. We will also visit Waibaidu Bridge, which is the first all-steel bridge, and the only surviving example of a camelback truss bridge, in the entire China. The present bridge was opened on 20 January 1908. With its rich history and unique design the Waibaidu Bridge is one of the symbols of Shanghai.
Next stop is the Bund's origin, where the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek converge, regarded as the origin of the Bund and the city. The 138,000-square-meter area contains many historic buildings, such as the recently saved Shanghai Rowing Club, the Union Church and the former British Consulate.
We then walk through the back street of East Nanjing Road, visit the famous historic buildings including the Peace Hotel, where many historical figures have stayed here such as Sun Yat-sen, Charlie Chaplin, Field Marshal Montgomery, Muhammad Ali, Bill Clinton, etc. We will also cover some of Shanghai's landmarks such as former HSBC building, custom house and former British club.
We invite you on an exciting and informative journey about one of Shanghai's most famous areas - The Bund.
