A really excellent holiday that takes in some amazing countries and scenery. Everything about this holiday was great from the cities of Tallin, Riga and Vilnius to the Curonian Strait, beatiful beaches and lakes galore. The quality of the food and the accommodation was also surprisingly good.
This wonderful bike tour of the Baltic states exceeded our expectations. Our multilingual Lithuanian guide Romas was the real treasure of the trip making each journey come alive with storytelling and historical insights. He also kept a close eye on how each member of the group was travelling and enjoying the cycling. We opted for guided rather than self guided in the end as it made sense to enjoy the experience with a guide who had in-depth knowledge. The self guided and guided groups would always reunite at the mini bus meeting point to load up the bikes and drive to a new destination together. We were also lucky to have a great group of like minded active travel types from all over the world (Romania, America, Kenya, Germany) who were great company and fun to share the experience with. It was the right mix of cycling and driving for us, as we got to see the best bits of the Baltics without having to put in weeks of extra cycling kilometres to cover all three Baltic states. One of the many highlights was cycling around the beautiful Estonian Saaremaa island. We returned to adjacent Muhu island after the tour had finished and spent another 5 days there cycling and exploring ancestral roots and being ensconced by Muhu’s ancient villages and beauty.
