Don't attempt this trip unless you know exactly what you're getting yourself into. And be aware that no matter how fit you are, altitude sickness can still strike you down. That's why you MUST use a reputable company like World Expeditions for a trek like this. My husband became ill on Day 3. Our trek leader was able to release a guide and a porter to get him back to Arusha and to hospital. I succumbed to a chest infection 5 days later and couldn't summit. Again, I was issued with a guide to get me safely to the next camp. Each of the 5 people in our group who did climb to the summit had a guide to ensure nothing went wrong. This was not the case for other tourists who attempted the climb. I heard stories of people wandering about alone at the top- disoriented and lost. Some groups didn't provide emergency oxygen. That meant their clients had to be dragged down the mountain, often barely unconscious.
Any travel company can be good when things go to plan. What's important is how they respond when things go wrong. And what they do to minimize the risk. World Expeditions could not have been more professional. If you're determined to climb Kilimanjaro, these are the guys you want to do it with.

This 6-day tour showcases the best of Tanzania wildlife and will take you through the Northern Safari Circuit in Tanzania. It includes Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservancy.
A visit to the Ngorongoro Crater is an experience of a lifetime. There are few places that have wildlife densities and variety at this level. It is not unusual to see the big five in one day! It also boasts the most amazing setting with a backdrop of the 600m/1968ft high crater wall.
Lake Manyara National Park provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded here and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos on their perpetual migration, as well as other large waterbirds such as pelicans, cormorants, and storks.
There is more to the Serengeti than large mammals. Gaudy agama lizards and rock hyraxes scuffle around the surfaces of the park’s isolated granite koppies. A full 100 varieties of dung beetle have been recorded, as have 500-plus bird species, ranging from the outsized ostrich and bizarre secretary bird of the open grassland to the black eagles that soar effortlessly above the Lobo Hills.
Please refer to the itinerary to find out what you'll be doing each day on this safari tour.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect as safari tours seem expensive, and I kept wondering if it would really be worth the cost. But it absolutely was. From the first day I knew I’d made the right choice. Every game drive felt like a new adventure. One morning we watched a group of baby elephants playing in the dust while their mothers stood nearby. Later, we spotted a hippo yawning near a watering hole. So close we could see its giant teeth! And the sunsets? Incredible.
Our guide was excellent. He was friendly & funny. The group dynamic was easy and fun. We had a mix of people: a couple celebrating their anniversary, a solo traveler from NY, and me with a close friend. It never felt awkward or too crowded.
You don’t need to be super fit for this tour. Everything is done at a relaxed pace and was very accessible, even for folks who aren’t used to rugged travel.
If Tanzania is on your list, my advice is that you don’t overthink it. Just go. It’s 100% worth it.

A drive-fly wildlife safari through Tanzania's magnificent National Parks. An all encompassing safari through Tanzania's magnificent National Parks. We begin in spectacular Tarangire National Park known for its elephant populations and prolific birdlife where wildlife viewing is at its best from June to October (bird watching is excellent from November to May). We then make our way to Ngorongoro Crater, where encounters with a variety of animals are guaranteed due to the large concentration of species supported by the permanent water source and naturally enclosed in the volcanic crater with its steep, densely vegetated sides. We travel by road to a Masai village and then to the world famous paleolithic site of Olduvai Gorge and Serengeti. Multiple game drives allow opportunities to search for and observe a huge array of plains animals, associated predators, estuarine life, birds and the distinctive scenery of the famous Serengeti. Flying from the Serengeti National Park back to Arusha means we can save a day of transit by road and maximise the time available for game viewing.
