The 'East Africa: Safari Drives, Mountain Hikes & Chimp Trekking' trip charts a 19-day course from vibrant Nairobi to coastal Dar Es Salaam, traversing legendary landscapes in Kenya and Tanzania such as Maasai Mara, Mt Kenya, Ngorongoro Crater, and Gombe Stream National Park.
Designed for seasoned explorers and mature travelers craving an active, in-depth experience, this guided small group tour offers a challenging yet rewarding itinerary. Begin with up-close wildlife encounters on game drives in the Maasai Mara and Serengeti, where you may find yourself whispering in awe as elephants or lions approach your vehicle. The journey is punctuated by an immersive stay at a Maasai-owned lodge, offering genuine cultural exchange and a rare glimpse into the lives of this iconic community—this authentic cultural connection is a highlight unique to this adventure.
Test your stamina with a full-day hike up Mt Kenya, each step unveiling increasingly spectacular vistas. Later, in Gombe Stream National Park, follow the trail of Dr. Jane Goodall in search of chimpanzee families, observing their behavior in the wild and gaining a new appreciation for primate conservation.
Throughout, you’ll enjoy comfortable accommodations, expertly managed transport, and a mix of included meals, meaning you can focus on the journey itself. The itinerary is woven with opportunities for cultural discovery—sharing meals, stories, and traditions with locals—alongside unforgettable wildlife moments in East Africa’s premier parks.
For those seeking a trip blending exhilarating mountain trekking, iconic safaris, and truly meaningful cultural immersion, this tour delivers East Africa at its most vivid and inspiring. The rare privilege of staying with the Maasai and trekking with wild chimps sets this experience apart, promising memories as rich as the landscapes you’ll cross.
I would highly recommend this safari to anyone looking for a safari. We had wonderful places to stay and I'm glad we stayed two nights in each place. The staff in each place were so welcoming, the food was excellent. The safari guides were knowledgeable and shared their knowledge and went out of their way to find the best places to see the wildlife. Our CEO Joseph was fun and helpful and shared so much of his life and knowledge with us making it so memorable and enjoyable. Thank you!
This was my first time on a G Adventures trip. I loved every day of it. Each day was unique and special. I know the size could have been larger, but 4 people plus Joseph and the driver was ideal. We were able to learn so much more by not having to have Joseph shared with a second land cruiser.
