For 15 days, you'll journey to bustling Cairo, cruise along the Nile in a traditional felucca and explore Luxor, Alexandria and coastal Hurghada. This is an Exploratory trip doing our classic Fes to Cape Town route in reverse, heading northbound instead. The itinerary is therefore flexible. This will take account of road conditions in some parts where there will be rains and plenty of mud, and of where we can apply for necessary visas en-route. Expect good weather and conditions at southern & northern ends, with poorer weather and bad roads nearer the Equator. Embarking on this expedition will give you an insight into the varied cultures of West and Central Africa and all the challenges this vast continent can throw at you. There will be days when it will be pretty tough - bad roads, harsh terrains and extremes of climates, but you will also get to experience, see and discover a continent most travellers only dream of - whilst having the experience of a lifetime!
Note: This is one of our Overland Adventures which are run on a participatory basis – you’ll be involved in the day to day running of the trip and have fun helping to cook for the group. Expect to sometimes get dusty and dishevelled and not to be able to have hot showers every night. Groups of up to 24 people are led by our crew of two.

The perfect introduction to Egypt, this tour covers Cairo and the Nile Valley between Aswan and Luxor, starting with the amazing Pyramids and Sphinx at Giza.
From Cairo we take the overnight seater train to Aswan, where we'll take a boat trip to the beautiful island temple of Philae and have the option to visit the huge temples built by Ramses II at Abu Simbel. We'll spend the night in Aswan in an authentic Nubian village.
The next highlight of the tour is a relaxing overnight cruise down the Nile on a traditional felucca sailboat. Our support boat with toilet, shower and kitchen for the crew to prepare your meals will join with you during the day and at night. Sailing on the Nile on a felucca is one of the best ways to see Egypt and it provides a great break between your busy sightseeing. An upgrade to a hotel is available for this night if you'd prefer some more comfort.
After exploring the amazing ancient Pharaonic sites in Luxor, we re-join the overnight train to Cairo. Additional options are then available before you fly home on your final day for a half-day city tour taking in the Egyptian Museum, Citadel and Khan-el-Khalili bazaar, or to learn more about the history of pyramid building at Dashour and Memphis. These traditional houses are set out in clusters according to the region. The homes are grouped with the first wife's hut, second wife's hut, granary, etc. and you can see where the livestock are kept and the enormous variety between the huts.
