With an imperial heritage that includes a branch of the powerful Habsburg dynasty as well as cultural innovators such as Mozart and Beethoven, Vienna guarantees a grandeur quite unlike anywhere else in Europe. The residing influence of the long standing Habsburg court can be seen in the often formal attitude and dress of the Viennese. Though the traditional courtly manner is now perfectly blended with more progressive attitudes and the famous Viennese coffee shop culture. Whether you opt for a glass of wine in a Vinothek or a slice of cake in the living-room of an inviting coffee house, fine-dining in a sumptuous setting is the trademark of a trip to Vienna. Vienna Tour Reviews

Guest reviews from travelers on tours in and around Vienna

The tour was excellent- I enjoyed touring the castles in Austria, seeing the how cuckoo clocks were made in Germany and going to Mount Pilatus in Switzerland. Everything was top notch including the food and accommodations. Our tour guide Pilar was very helpful and informative- couldn’t recommend her enough.

This was our first ever multi-day bicycle trip. We loved it. The Danube cycle path offered a variety of scenery…the beautiful river, forests, rural and agricultural areas, small towns, cities, ancient and modern places. The hotels that were arranged for us were lovely and the luggage transport worked flawlessly. We loved the bountiful Austrian style breakfasts. Our only complaint was that one bike was difficult to pedal for the first two days, until we had it repaired at a bike shop. The chain was rubbing on the chain guard and the front wheel was overtightened. Later, as we were approaching Vienna, the handlebars on that bike suddenly became loose and swiveled 30 degrees, which could have caused a serious accident. So we recommend that the mechanics who provide the bikes do a much more thorough job of inspecting and testing each one, as if their spouse was going to ride it for 210 miles.

Our cycle tour was a special birthday celebration for me and my sisters 60th year and it didn’t disappoint. The tour was very well organised, from the information we received when collecting our bikes, the maps and additional info, to the collecting of our luggage every morning and the delivery of the luggage to the next destination. We had paid extra for 4 star hotels and whilst most of them were lovely there was one hotel that was definitely not a 4 star hotel. We were very lucky with the weather, and thoroughly enjoyed every day cycling along the stunningly beautiful Danube. Truly a holiday to remember. As a result of this experience we are eagerly planning our next cycling holiday.

Loved the trip to Eastern Europe what made the trip very enjoyable was having Rhi Smith she was the best tour guide I have ever had/ I have traveled extensively

This was a good itinerary. We got to see a lot and had a good glimpse of the areas covered. Rhi was very informed of the areas and accommodating to my food allergy. One thing that was challenging: there were some mornings we left earlier than I would have expected. I understand leaving early for busy sites like the Parthenon. I am talking about leaving at 7:30/7:45 when a restaurant at a hotel opens at 7:00 AM. Sometimes we were leaving quite early with a day of driving just so we could make extra stops (which were perhaps not on the itinerary?) This made for an even busier day and needless anxiousness by the traveler. To be blunt, many people need time from eating breakfast and drinking coffee for their bowels to get moving. This is about an hour for many people. Leaving earlier just created anxiousness since we were afraid we would have to use bathroom on the coach - not ideal.

Everything was wonderful! our travel director was great! All the excursions were worth the money. I liked all the hotels but Berlin - the hotel was nice but the location was not! I meet a lot of wonderful people. The bus had WiFi and charging was available in each seat. Can’t wait to go on my next trip!

Vienna - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Trip Highlights

  • Café Sacher is the ultimate coffee house experience. Skip the terrace and head to the opulent, chandelier-lit interior and order a slice of traditional chocolate Sacher Torte.
  • Staphansdom epitomises Vienna’s baroque, gothic architecture.
  • For a hefty dose of culture and cafes, head to the Museums Quartier, set inside the old imperial stables.
  • Hofburg was home to the Habsburgs from the 13th to the 20th century. It is now a glorious jigsaw puzzle of architecture across the centuries.
  • Those interested in Vienna’s musical history should spend some time at the Haus der Musik.
  • The Vienna Christmas Markets are a winter wonderland and operate from mid-November until Christmas.
  • To truly experience the grandeur of Vienna, attend one of the Viennese balls that run throughout the winter months.

Travel Tips

  • Vienna’s S7 metro line takes your directly from the airport to the city center. Vienna is very walkable but the metro is useful to get between districts.
  • Summer is high-season with spring and early autumn being less crowded.
  • Reservations are a good idea for restaurants and tipping is generally around 10%.
  • Be prepared to dress up in Vienna.
  • Generally all shops are closed on Sundays, so stock up before the weekend.
  • A Vienna Card is a great way to save money on transports, attractions and restaurants as well as a hop-on hop-off bus tour.
