excellent trip. great insight into rarely seen places, especially Macedonia. I'm an archaeology fan and I was delighted with the site visits and museums. Our tour leader Yane was a delight - warm, caring and highly capable.

Just finished a 2 week trip (Ancient Macedonia) with a small group of 13 people. Janne, our guide, was outstanding. The trip was well organized and all visits/sites/local guides were excellent. Additionally, our driver Dzogo, also added much local knowledge. All in all a great trip with a fun like minded group of travelers.

A very interesting tour which covers a large part of Ancient Macedonia. Old towns, castles, monasteries, archaeological sites and superb museums, especially the Tombs in Vergina. As with most Explore tours the hotels are variable, but some were very good. Trip notes / itinerary not always accurate, so be aware that on the second night you are not actually staying in a monastery but in a very simple hotel alongside a church. No monks, no monastery! Also at Lake Ohrid, whether or not you are able to enjoy the beaches depends very much on the time of year. It was rainy and cold when we were there! We had a lovely tour leader, Zorica, who was knowledgeable, charming and very helpful, and our driver, Pascal, was exactly what you would wish for. The minibus was perfect for our small group of ten, but I don’t think that it would be so comfortable with a full group. Would certainly recommend this to anyone who is interested in the history of this area and who loves beautiful scenery.

Explore provided a very interesting and well-paced itinerary. A couple of the accommodation houses were a bit run down but all were in excellent locations. Full marks to the tour leader for personality, organisation and responsiveness to the group. Our only concern was that she sometimes struggled with the english language requirments of presentations.

We seemed to be assigned to rooms which were floors above with no lifts on all hotels except two. This in addition to carrying luggage to hotel lobbies with no ramps and multiple stair flights. There were no weather warnings prior to each location, to help us wear appropriate clothing & accessories to feel comfortable during touring.

Varied itinerary, especially for those that are interested in archeological sites and monasteries. The examples of both on this trip are exceptional. The accommodation was good throughout but particularly good in Sofia. Ochrid and Kavala were my highlights.
