Reviews of our Inverness Tours for September
Feedback from guests whose tour started in/around Inverness during September.
Beautiful, amazing, and sometimes challenging mountain hikes led by a local guide, Angela. Weather on the mountains can change in a heartbeat, so be sure to bring waterproof layers and gloves.
Highlands and Skye hiking was great! The weather was “bumpy”, as guide called it. But Angela was very good at tweaking the hiking days to get the max best conditions possible for each hike. Accommodations were very good - especially after the wetter hiking days. Overall, the hikes were challenging, with elevation gain/loss and rocky or muddy trail (or off-trail) surface. The whole Scottish experience was memorable!
The crew (skipper, bosan, guide, cook) were all professional and fun and ensured all the guests were safe, enjoying themselves and extremely well fed. Each evening the following days barge trip was outlined as were the walking options. As the barge had to negotiate many locks there were many hop on/hop off points for those not wanting to walk the entire Great Glen. The scenery both from the barge and the well maintained walking tracks was so spectacular that the light rain each day of our trip seemed insignificant. The facilities on the barge were very comfortable and it was fun having meals all together around one large table. The cabins were comfortable and the showers functioned exceptionally well with good pressure and warmth. Our only suggestion would be the reconfiguration of the split level bed to two singles would suit the majority of travelers in our age group of retirees.
The leaders have a lot of local knowledge, and they did an excellent job getting us to diverse walks and in ensuring there was an easier option for some of the walkers who were struggling with the more difficult sections of the routes.
