Frankfurt-am- Main, the largest city in the state of Hesse, stands out from other German towns because of its distinct, future-oriented character. Since it’s one of the most important financial hubs of Europe and the world, a visit to Frankfurt will allow you to witness its hurried pace of life, large-scale trade shows and dazzling skyscrapers. It is because of this modern vibe that the locals sometimes jokingly refer to their city as “Manhattan”. And yet, the Hessian hub is still home to numerous museums, fine art galleries, upmarket eateries and chic bars, making a trip to Frankfurt an excellent choice for all the travelers who enjoy the finer things in life. Busy itinerary but covered so much! A crash course in history for sure. Would be nice to be able to spend a little bit more time in Munich and not in a Sunday where everything is closed. That is the one place that could improve. Also the hotel in the black forest was nice, but because of it being a Monday the Biergarten was closed so there was not place to spend time with our fellow travelers

This trip was an excellent introduction to the German history. Our guide . was a great source of information about every historical city that we stopped at. Greatly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in German history.

The trip was wonderful! We learned so much about the history and culture of the cities and towns. We had time on our own to explore and interact with the locals which we enjoy doing.

This was our 2nd Trafalger tour and it was great. We did all of the included and optional experiences and we were glad we did. We felt that we were able to see enough sites and we learned a lot about Germany’s past and present. The tour director, was exceptional. She was knowledgeable about Germany and all of the places we visited and she shared so much information about Germany. She was committed to keeping everyone in our group safe and informed and kept the tour running smoothly. We will definitely travel with Trafalger again.

It was amazing. We were all looked after very well. Accommodation was great and very comfortable. Our tour guide and bus drive brilliant. Always looking after everyone. The people on tour were lovely. We all got a long very well. I learned though, that you can say no to optional other activities if you are wanting time away from everyone. Time to enjoy the pool at your hotel etc.

Frankfurt - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Tour Highlights

  • Altstadt, or Frankfurt’s old town center, is where you will find the city’s historical buildings, including the Römerberg (town hall), the 14th-century Dom (Saint Bartholomeus' Cathedral) and the Old St. Nicholas Church.
  • Museumsufer is a special district that sprawls along both banks of the Main River, where you can visit one of Frankfurt’s many cultural spots. It is in this area that you will find the famous Städel art gallery, Museum for Communication and German Film Museum.
  • Located in the southern part of the town, Frankfurt City Forest is the largest urban forest in Germany, spanning 48 square kilometers. It is an ideal getaway if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city center.
  • Palmengarten is a 19th-century botanical oasis located in the Westend-Süd district that is
also home to numerous exotic plant species.

Travel Tips

  • If you happen to spend your holidays in Frankfurt when the weather is pleasant, make sure to stroll down the Main River and soak up the atmosphere of the city like the locals do.
  • Since Frankfurt is one of the main commercial hubs in Europe, it’s advisable to book your stay outside of major trade fairs, as this is when accommodation prices in the city tend to skyrocket.
  • If you want to try a local delicacy, visit one of the restaurants in the Sachsenhausen district and ask for “ebbelwoi” (Hesse-style apple wine).
