The Eurasian country of Georgia is an absolute delight, with small villages nestled in the Caucasus Mountains, gorgeous beaches along the Black Sea and vibrant vineyards producing delicious wines. Georgia’s most popular attraction is Vardzia, an awe-inspiring cave monastery. Try a walking tour along the cobbled streets of Tbilisi, or head north to tour the cultural wonders of Mtskheta.

Georgia Highlight

What makes Georgia unique compared to other destinations?

Georgia is unlike any other country because it combines so much variety in a small area. You can travel from snowy mountain peaks to sunny vineyards and the Black Sea coast in just a few hours. The country’s mix of cultures, incredible food, and long winemaking history make it truly special. It’s also one of the oldest Christian nations, full of ancient churches and monasteries. But what really makes Georgia unforgettable is its people - warm, generous, and always ready to welcome guests.

Georgia's Hidden Gem

One lesser-known, off-the-beaten-path destination in Georgia and why is it special?

Svaneti, in northwestern Georgia, is one of the country’s most beautiful and remote mountain regions. It’s famous for its medieval stone towers, dramatic peaks, and traditional Svan culture that’s still alive today. Villages like Mestia and Ushguli sit high in the Caucasus Mountains, offering breathtaking views and a glimpse of authentic local life. Svaneti feels peaceful and untouched, with crystal-clear rivers, hiking trails, and hearty home-cooked food. It’s the perfect place for travelers who love nature, history, and genuine cultural experiences far from the crowds.

Georgian Way of Life

What are some key cultural insights you think travelers should know before arriving in Georgia?

Georgians are deeply proud of their traditions and are famous for their hospitality. Guests are treated like family, and sharing food and wine is an important part of life. The supra — a traditional feast led by a toastmaster (tamada) — is a cultural highlight. Religion also plays a big role, so modest clothing is expected in churches and monasteries. It’s polite to greet people warmly, respect elders, and show genuine interest in local customs. Travelers who do will always be welcomed with open arms and big smiles.

Tips for Georgia Travel

Are there any common mistakes travelers make when visiting Georgia that they could avoid?

Many travelers think Georgia is small and easy to cover quickly, but mountain roads can be slow, and weather conditions are unpredictable. It’s better to travel at a relaxed pace and not rush. Another common mistake is staying only in Tbilisi and skipping the countryside — regions like Kakheti, Svaneti, or Adjara offer the true heart of Georgia. Some visitors also forget to carry cash, as small towns may not take cards. When visiting churches, women should cover their heads and shoulders, and men should remove their hats. Planning ahead and keeping flexible make the trip more enjoyable.

Georgia Tour Reviews

Honest insights from past guests on our Georgia tours

This trip exceeded all expectations. The scenery was breathtaking, the group really nice and the tour leader (Alex) extremely knowledgeable. The hiking is challenging, but do-able. I was often towards the back, but at no point felt rushed to go faster than I could manage. I highly recommend a trip to the Svaneti region and the Caucasus Mountains.

This was a really interesting and challenging tour led by an excellent guide. The tour gives you an opportunity to explore a remote area in Georgia and feel as if you have stepped back in time. The accommodation is comfortable and the food provided is local, fresh and plentiful. Our guide, Alex, shared his love of his country and ensured we experienced a different type of walk each day so we saw the best of Georgia throughout our stay. A great tour to a beautiful part of the world.

The mountains are stunningly beautiful in early spring, with numerous wild flowers in the meadows and snow on the peaks. Batumi is a surprisingly interesting city, worth staying an extra day before or after the tour to fully explore

Our Georgia hike was fantastic, the scenery was beautiful and the people we met were so warm and welcoming. Our guide Lasha was terrific, knowledgeable and helped create a great group vibe. I would definitely recommend this experience.

I had personally nicknamed this trip "Journey into the Unknown" because I knew absolutely nothing about Georgia before joining. This adventure was a complete success in every respect. The landscapes were magnificent, the organisation was excellent, our driver was highly professional, and our guide was outstanding throughout the trip. The hospitality, the food and the atmosphere within the group all contributed to making this an unforgettable experience.

I enjoyed a very well balanced and varied trip. We began in the city of Batumi beside the black sea, full of vibrant people and impressive contemporary architecture. This complimented the less affluent rural lifestyles where we enjoyed challenging potholed roads, accompanying stray dogs, local cuisine, good beer and wine and friendly hospitality. Our leader, Ouma, shared a lot of information about Georgian history, politics, language, wine making and more besides. He lead the walks in a calm responsible way, each walk having its own unique character; we didn't quite achieve the heights given on the itinerary due to recent snow - conversely the settled snow combined with sunshine was visually glorious. One highlight for me was the showing of the film "Dede" recently shot in Ushguli and shown in a cosy improvised barn cinema in the heart of that village. My fellow travellers were all lovely people and I would recommend this trip.
