I recently trekked to Everest Base Camp with. Raj, Rudra, Pemba are really good on what they do. It was an extraordinary trek just because of these people.
Friendly and qualified employees, high standards that don't disappoint and attention to the detail, these are the qualities that make Mosaic a top notch company while visiting Nepal. It seems obvious that Mosaic knows the client requirement very well. With all the challenges taken care of and experience behind you, you get to enjoy the Everest base camp trek. Mosaic provides you with the much needed peace of mind while being away from home. Being a million mile flyer that I am, I can easily tell a good tour company. I can confidently tell you that Mosaic never disappoints their clients and it is worthwhile giving them a shot.
Had instant good vibes about the company when first met at the Adventure Travel show -- which turned out to be totally justified. Being a Nepalese company based in central Kathmandu you receive first hand information, coupled with a deep knowledge and love of their country and their aim to ensure you have a fantastic experience in Nepal.
Madhav -- running the office magnificently -- answers all emails and enquiries ( however fatuous ) really helpfully -- and quicker than I would have thought possible without staying awake 24/7 !!
Pralhad - our guide on the Tamang Heritage Trek --and porter Purna were brilliant -- unfailingly good-humoured and considerate and ever ready to make sure everything was OK for us.
Mosaic Adventure is quite a small company providing a very reliable and personal relationship with its clients. All the staff are great and that rather well-worn phrase "Come as a tourist -- depart as a friend " is truly applicable. Should you be planning a trip to Nepal I have no hesitation whatsoever in whole-heartedly recommending Mosaic Adventure.
I would highly recommend Mosaic for any kind of trip in Nepal. Everything went without a hitch. Madhav saved us a lot of money and we never had to compromise on the quality of accommodations. Transfers, tickets and tours were all in place and just about perfect. We went to Nepal during the times when tourist flow was at the highest. But Mosaic had already given us the all-necessary hints and tips on how to handle the situation. It made everything a whole lot easier. Throughout the trip, our family was filled with excitement and memories to last a lifetime with help of our excellent guides Rudra and Keshar. On the whole, we could not help but feel that Mosaic is one travel agency that considers its clients' time, budgets, constraints and their likes and dislikes.
Our trek to Gokyo Lake was majestic and beautiful as imagined. Our guide Rimal was amazing. We were given healthy meals and our medical needs were taken care of properly. Everyone at Mosaic was had great concern and care. It was definitely worth the money. Mosaic Adventure! You are the greatest and will definitely book our next adventure with you.
My friend and I (both from Australia) did a trek to Everest base camp (5365m above sea level) and Kala Pathar (5545m above sea level) through Mosaic Adventure. The company was amazing, probably the best out there (based on comparisons with people that we met during the trek). They were also very reasonably priced. They explained to us all expected costs before arrival to Nepal and before we left for the trek. They were absolutely correct and there were no hidden costs or anything. They were extremely helpful as well. One particular example was a flight problem to Lukla. The weather was bad that day and our flight was cancelled due to that. We were asked to come back the next day. This was not the company's fault or anything. My friend and I really didn’t want to spend one more day in Kathmandu. So we enquired about helicopters. Many people in the airport travelling to Lukla were doing the same. We got very expensive quotes for helicopters and so did other westerners. Madhav (Trek Coordinator) knew that we were interested in catching a helicopter but our budget was low. So he made some phone calls and managed to get us on a helicopter for about half of the price that other westerners were paying that day.
The Company is also extremely organized and very professional. You get to meet your guide the day before. And they gave us an awesome one day Kathmandu city tour as well. Unlike other companies that were just trying to sell, this company was actually concerned about us. About our comfort, safety, enjoyment etc. whenever we had some reception in the mountain, Madhav would call our guide and check up on us. He would then talk to us quickly to make sure that we are ok and that we are having fun. As beginners in the trekking world (not very fit and didn’t train before the trek or anything), we felt very safe and comfortable. The company’s support helped us reach our goal/destination successfully.
Our mountain guide (Hari) was awesome, really awesome. Best mountain guide ever. He became a good friend of ours. Other mountain guides were not as friendly and as funny as he was. He made us laugh and laugh that we had no problems with altitude sickness or anything. He was very responsible and supervised us really well without us feeling that he was doing that. He gave us the exact amount of freedom that we wanted. Other hikers would finish their trek, get to the tea houses, get changed, have a quick dinner and then go to bed. With us, it was finish the trek, get to the tea houses, get changed, eat dinner, play cards and laugh for a few hours, socialize with our guide and all his awesome mountain friends, then we would go to bed. This socializing exercise and constant laughing really helped in ignoring the lack of oxygen in the air. So overall, our guide was awesome.
In conclusion, we loved the company and felt very comfortable and safe with them. We recommend it to everyone. They do have many other tours and treks. And if I am ever planning to go to Nepal again to seek adventure, I would definitely be doing it through Mosaic Adventure.
Me and my partner had an excellent treking experience with mosiac. We did the everest base camp trek and had an absolutely amazing time. Everything about the trip was well organised from the day tour of kathmandu before the trek (which took in 4 of the major sites and was extremely informative and fun) to the transport and accommodation throughout the trek. Our treking guide, Pralhad, was really good, always making sure we were okay, he was really patient encouraging us to walk slowly, answering all our questions and he also took good care of us both when we got a little bit sick towards the end of the trip! The accommodation on the trek was basic of course but the places we stayed always seemed pretty nice compared to some of the other places around. Mosaic were very accommodating, for example we had to put the trek date back just a few days before it started and they arranged this immediately with no complaints, answered all our questions throughout and were extremely organised and efficient (every time someone was suposed to collect us from somewhere they were on time with their mosaic sign, friendly and helpful) also they arranged to donate our unwanted treking clothes to a local orphanage for us. Mosiac are a really great company with helpful staff, I would definitely use them again if I had the chance to return to Nepal.
We loved the tour operator but were not happy with our guide.
Mosaic adventure as a trekking agency is very professionally run and managed well. Madhav did an amazing job of welcoming us to Kathmandu, sending us off on our trek and then being there when we returned. He took extra care in ensuring everything was organised and easy for us.
The guide we had (Rishi) was also good. He knew the trails very well, took pains to ensure we were comfortable at all the tea houses and was generally fun to hang out with. However, there were definitely some areas that could be improved for future trekkers overall. These are simply my observations and recommendation and do not imply in any way that i was unhappy with the trip. Just a few small areas of possible improvement.
1) need to be informed beforehand regarding food cost that is allowed. we were under the impression that all food is covered however we are later told that only main meals are covered but side dishes, papads are not covered etc etc. This should be clarified at the start of the trek.
2) would be nice to have a short briefing every night about what to expect the next day. While this was done for the first few days, it was not continued as the trek progressed (and thus got harder at some portions). If the client is unaware as to what to expect then they will be a lot more lax and not as alert about what is expected of them. Case in point is when we got to Muktinath and expected the trek to Jomson to be the same as the days before that when we had 5/6hrs of trekking but we were not made aware of the strong winds on the way to Kagbeni till the morning of the trek. If we had been made aware of this then we would have been more alert to leave Muktinath earlier instead of taking some time to walk around the village.
3) Have mini tours around the villages. In some of the villages e.g. Muktinath, there are some temples or stupas which are well worth the visit. It would be nice to sometimes have the guide take us to these places, give us some background, etc. I saw this happening with some other groups and their guides but ours was more focused on just getting to the village.
4) Also, in Thorung Pedi, i think the trek to High Base Camp to acclimatize should be part of the trek (similar to going to Gangapurna Lake in Manang). The guide might feel like this will tire us out but to be honest, we're already exhausted as is and an extra one and a half hours wouldnt be detrimental.
Overall still a very good and enjoyable trek.
Question 2: This answer mainly refers to the guide's attention to health and safety, and not the agency's. The guide (Rishi Ram Adhikari) is too young to be mature in his people skills. While his trekking knowledge was good, he lacked in aspects of making people feel comfortable throughout the guide, which is a very important aspect of being a guide, especially when you are leading people through unfamiliar and relatively risky territory.
Mosaic Adventure itself is a great agency - Madhav went out of his way to ensure our comfort and convenience.
