Tailormade Vacation Packages and Holidays to Tunisia

Yousra was a perfectly amazing tour leader. She was very knowledgable, organized and creative - she was able to add some stops that really worked for our group. I appreciated her flexibility - the holiday that fell during our tour meant that she had to find alternatives to some plans, and she was great at that. And she was very kind to share a bit of her home life with us. I loved that she often wore something special from her homeland, a hat, scarf, tshirt - it really added to the personalization of the tour and made it easy to learn more about Tunisia. I loved all of Tunisia - the scenery, the people, the history. I was disappointed in Carthage: especially since the tour is entitled "ancient Carthage" I really expected to see some important ruins at that site, but it is all covered and built up (which Yousra explained) and impossible to really explore - that was disappointing. There are other truly wonderful Roman and other historical sites, but it might be better not to advertise Carthage! Concentrate on the other amazing sites - I had not expected such lovely coastal cities, great aquaducts and amphitheatres and I loved the visit to the Berber farm. The hotels were lovely - the last nites in Tunis were more standard big city hotels, but that was fine as a windup. And the hotels at the coast and in El Jem were very elegant. I realize that the Feast of the Sacrifice caused disruption in the tour plans, and that was disappointing too - even back in Tunis days after the holiday, the medina was basically closed down. (And again, Yousra gets lots of credit for her ability to pivot and make changes!) I didn't plan to do much shopping but it was hard to even find 30 minutes where something was OPEN. I do think people like to browse, even if they don't buy much! I don't think people travel to Tunis for the food, but it was fine overall. Breakfasts were always great, and Yousra was very kind to find treats for us, like local cheese and pastries to sample. I would definitely recommend Tunisia - it was all such a lovely surprise! And certainly Yousra deserves so much of the credit for making it an amazing experience!!

This was a new tour as of May 2026. Our tour guide, Yousra, was fabulous - knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The itinerary was clearly in development. The “first day” of the tour is nothing - scheduled for your arrival at the airport because most flights arrive around 11 pm. There were a few days of “filler” - doing nothing but one activity like mosaic-making class for 1.5 hours (which was interesting). The hotel at El Jem (Hotel Julius) was awful - the central lobby, which all the rooms face, is filled with smoke. The highlight was the archaeological sites.

The locations that we visited were interesting but there were many times we were given so many facts. For me it was too much but for others on the tour it was probably perfect. There were times when I wanted to just absorb the surroundings not have continual commentary. The tour vehicle and driver were very good. Accommodation was of good standard. In Kairouan time was wasted going to a carpet place. Travellers on Explore holidays would have probably seen these before in other countries and so I found that unnecessary. Our time would have been better spent being able to wander around Kairouan itself. Seeing the camel walking around in that restrictive area in the the mill in Kairouan was distressing and I thought that should not be included in an Explore tour. I appreciated very much going to the Sahara. That was a highlight. I appreciated that there was birthday cake provided there for three of us that had birthday’s during the tour and that was a good thing. The tour guide could have probably acknowledged our birthday with each of us privately on our birthdays. The optional tour going out on the 4WD desert activities I was enjoying immensely but a person from the tour in the vehicle that was uncomfortable with the driving . The activity should be explained fully before people sign up for it as to what it will entail. The driver was not at fault. The company who runs these activities believes that people have signed off on the actitvity. I found that the Explore Leader spoke to at least me and another female member of the tour in an aggressive and condescending manner. This I never saw happen to any of the males on the tour.

A comprehensive overview of beautiful Tunisia, including Ancient Carthage, well preserved Roman ruins, scenic Sidi Bou Said, Star Wars, and much more! Our night in the Sahara was impacted by hazy skies, but the camp was well managed and the dinner was delicious. Our guide was very knowledgeable about his Tunisian history and culture and stayed up all night the last night to ensure we were transported to the airport at 3am. The only negative was the camel “show” in Kairaoun. That is animal cruelty, and Explore should not support that.

Please remove the visit to the camel in Kairoun. The itinerary was fine except for that. Horrifying experience.

A very interesting and rewarding tour with ancient sites medieval and ottoman sites as well interesting , scenery and landscapes. Nice weather and climate friendly local people.there is lot of history and culture for a relatively, small country. Highly recommended , as a cultural and historical experience.
