Itinerary
Queensland is the only place in the world where two World Heritage Sites meet. And you get to see their convergence on this east coast Australia trip, which tours from the Brisbane to Cairns. From a Great Barrier Reef cruise to the Wet Tropics rainforest, from Hamilton Island to Kuranda 'village in the rainforest' tour, get set for a parade of postcard-worthy attractions.
day 1 - Brisbane - K'gari (Fraser Island) via Noosa
Begin your journey in Brisbane and travel north to the relaxed coastal region of Noosa. Enjoy free time to explore Hastings Street or stroll along the beach before continuing to Hervey Bay. Here, board a ferry to World Heritage-listed K'gari (Fraser Island). The ferry ride across the strait is a highlight, particularly during whale migration when these gentle giants come to the calm, protected waters to calve. Landing on Kgari, expect to see a lot of sand. This is, after all, the worlds largest sand island, and the only place in the world where rainforest grows from the sand. Surrounded by ancient rainforest and white-sand shores, check in to your eco resort and settle in for a peaceful evening immersed in nature.
day 2 - K'gari (Fraser Island)
Spend the day exploring the worlds largest sand island by 4WD. Visit Lake McKenzie, famous for its clear turquoise water and silica-white sand, and drive along 75 Mile Beach. Wander through rainforest growing directly in the sand and see iconic sights like the Maheno Shipwreck. Learn about Kgaris ecology and Indigenous significance from local guides who call this island home.
day 3 - K'gari - Rockhampton
Return to the mainland and travel through regional Queensland, stopping at Langmorn Station, a historic cattle property. The Creed family will welcome you with afternoon tea and a tour of the immense (and historic) property the original family homestead was built in 1873. The family will regale you with stories about life on the land. The theme continues as you cross the Tropic of Capricorn to arrive in Rockhampton, the beef capital of Australia known for its heritage buildings and laid-back Queenslander spirit.
day 4 - Rockhampton - Hamilton Island
Depart Rockhampton and head north along the Queensland coastline. Stop at the Sarina Sugar Shed for an engaging tour that highlights the history and production of sugarcane in the region - with a chance to sample locally made treats. Continue to Airlie Beach, where youll board a ferry bound for Hamilton Island. Part of the idyllic Whitsundays, the island offers white-sand beaches, swaying palms, and a relaxed pace. Settle into your resort accommodation and enjoy the tropical surrounds at your leisure.
day 5 - Hamilton Island (the Whitsundays)
Wake up in paradise with a full day at your own pace. The Whitsunday Islands need little introduction, 74 tropical drops of land, a beguiling union of powdery beaches and rainforest, all ringed by the Coral Sea. Choose from a range of optional experiences designed to make the most of this island haven. Sail to world-famous Whitehaven Beach, fly over the breathtaking Heart Reef, or explore walking trails and secluded coves. Alternatively, take it slow - relax poolside or enjoy the islands dining and boutique offerings. However you spend the day, the Whitsundays natural beauty and relaxed island lifestyle are sure to leave a lasting impression.
day 6 - Hamilton Island - Cairns
After breakfast, ferry back to the mainland and travel by coach to Cairns, a place where two World Heritage Sites converge: the Great Barrier Reef meets the Wet Tropics of Queensland. On arrival, youll be greeted by warm tropical breezes and the laid-back atmosphere of Queenslands far north. Settle into your hotel, ideally located near the Cairns Esplanade. The rest of the day is yours to explore - perhaps stroll the waterfront, visit the nearby Night Markets, or dine at a local seafood restaurant.
day 7 - Cairns (Great Barrier Reef Cruise)
Prepare for a day of natural wonder as you cruise to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the worlds most iconic marine environments. Travel by high-speed catamaran to a permanently moored pontoon at the outer reef. Snorkel over colourful coral gardens, view marine life from a semi-submersible or underwater observatory, or simply relax on deck and soak it all in. Expert guides will provide fascinating commentary on the reefs ecology throughout the day.
day 8 - Cairns & Surrounds
This morning, travel by coach to Kuranda, a picturesque village nestled in the World Heritage-listed rainforest, on the eastern edge of the Atherton Tablelands. Spend time browsing vibrant markets, visiting local art galleries, or enjoying some free time amid lush surroundings. Glide above the treetops aboard the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, offering a birds-eye view over and through the rainforest and gushing waterfalls. Return to Cairns in the afternoon with time to relax or explore further. In the evening, celebrate your final night with a special dinner - sharing highlights and memories from your Queensland journey with your fellow travellers.
day 9 - Farewell from Cairns
Enjoy a final tropical breakfast this morning. You leave with unforgettable memories of island paradises, coral reefs, and rainforest escapes.
