day 2 - Jerusalem, Israel
Jerusalem Holy City Experience (B)
Today, you will take part in a Holy City Tour. Starting from Jaffa Gate of the Old City, we'll step back into time and walk through the different Quarters of the Old City. Taking in the indescribable energy that every corner presents, we'll visit the sites most holy to all three religions. To Jews, King David's Tomb and the Western (Wailing) Wall, the last remains of the Jewish Temple which stood here thousands of years ago. To Muslims, the site where the Prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven, the Dome of the Rock, as well as the beautiful Al Aqsa Mosque. And to Christians, the Via Dolorosa along which Christ walked with his own cross to his crucifixion, the room of the last supper, as well as venturing inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre! Biblical stories will be put into context as you stand in the place where they took place whilst learning about the 5 Pillars of Islam, the foundation of the Jewish nation and the discovery of the True Cross, to name a few.
day 3 - Jerusalem, Israel
Masada Sunrise, Ein Gedi and Dead Sea Experience (B)
Today, you will leave early in the morning at 3:00 hrs and you'll drive east through the Judean Desert, all the way to the foot of Masada. As you begin to climb up the Snake Path, the sun will emerge in the east over the mountains. You'll reach the top just in time to relax in front of the stunning desert landscape below, and the red sun shimmering off the still waters of the Dead Sea. Once you've had your fill of the wonderful views, you'll spend some time exploring the archaeological ruins of a castle built in the year 30 BCE by King Herod, and also the place where Jewish rebels famously decided to take their own lives rather than to fall into the hands of the advancing Roman armies. After you descend the same path, you will find the bus waiting for you, ready to continue the day's adventures. We will drive to Ein Gedi, a desert oasis where you can take a short hike, where you’ll likely encounter mountain goats and other creatures among the vegetation. The nature reserve includes a stream of cool running water, leading to various pools and refreshing springs, where you are welcome to bathe on hot days. The last part of the tour is spent at the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea. Enjoy the salty waters and rejuvenating therapeutic mud, floating and relaxing, before we return to Jerusalem.
day 4 - Jerusalem, Israel
Mount of Olives Experience (B)
Today, you'll learn about the importance of the Mount of Olives. Chosen as a site of pilgrimage by the Jews to lament the destruction of the First Temple because of its stunning views of the Temple site and the Old City of Jerusalem, the Mount of Olives is home to the oldest Jewish burial ground in the World, which we'll visit, with several tens of thousands of graves dating back to Canaanite era. For Christians, the Mount of Olives is hallowed as the location of the Gates of Heaven that will open on Judgement day, and the location of Jesus’ last week on Earth. You'll visit many important ancient churches and the Mosque of Ascension, to piece together the history of this beautiful area before finishing the tour at Mary's Tomb from where you can either take the walk back to the Lion’s Gate or to the Wailing Wall.
day 5 - Jerusalem, Israel - Petra, Jordan
Jerash, Amman and Petra Bedouin Camp (B/L/D)
From Jerusalem, you will head toward the Jordanian border. Cross at the northern Sheikh Hussein border and enter Jordan! Continue towards the ancient city of Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Step back in time as you walk through the ruins of this 4000-year-old city, while your guide explains this wonderful blend of Greco-Roman architecture and the Mediterranean world. Continue to the capital city Amman, where you will drive by sites like the Royal Palace, King Hussein National Mosque, and get a general overview of the city. Before moving on from Amman, we’ll get to taste a delicious local sweet, called Knafeh. From here, you will go to a Bedouin camp near Petra where you will enjoy Bedouin hospitality, including an Arab-style dinner and a comfortable bed for the night. Before going to sleep, sit beneath the clear desert skies and stargaze, as you drink a cup of delicious Bedouin tea.
day 6 - Petra, Jordan - Jerusalem, Israel
Visit to Petra and transfer back to Jerusalem (B/L)
Today, you will tour Petra. One of the seven wonders of the world, and Jordan’s most treasured attraction, Petra is an unforgettable place. It was carved into the red rocks of the soaring cliffs in the early 1st century as the tomb of a Nabataean king, and was hidden under sand for centuries before recently becoming accessible again. Enter through the Siq, a narrow gorge, and tour the Treasury and Amphitheater with your guide who will explain the sites and history as you marvel at the beauty of each structure. Then you will have free time to continue individually as you wish: climb to the Royal Tombs, walk down the Roman Cardo, hike up to the Monastery, and explore the different sites. After lunch, return back to Jerusalem via the Allenby Bridge border crossing.
