Keen trekkers searching for a challenging yet rewarding Kilimanjaro ascent will find the 6-day Machame Route—known as the “Whiskey” route—irresistible. Compared to Marangu, expect longer, steeper hiking days and more dramatic scenery, from the vast Shira Plateau to the towering Barranco Wall. The route’s climb-high, sleep-low strategy aids acclimatization and boosts summit success rates, while nights in tents under the stars appeal to those with a taste for adventure. A thorough equipment check and pre-trek briefing ensure you’re well prepared for this iconic journey, making this trekking package a favorite for experienced hikers seeking both challenge and visual splendor.

The adventure continues to Flores Island, your base for visiting the ancient Mayan temples of Tikal and enjoying leisurely island life. Challenge yourself with a seven-day trek up Mount Kilimanjaro via the renowned Machame Route—the ‘whiskey route’ known for its excellent acclimatization and high summit success rates. Starting at Machame Gate, ascend through lush rainforest, traverse the Shira Plateau, and conquer the dramatic Barranco Wall before your final push to the summit. Descend via the scenic Mweka trail, sharing the journey with a like-minded group. This trek is suitable for both novice high-altitude hikers and experienced mountaineers seeking a classic Kilimanjaro experience. The unique feature is the route’s optimal balance of altitude gain and rest, making your summit attempt both achievable and memorable.
One the seven main routes used to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the Machame route is the most popular path. It is the route of choice for many people because it provides impressive views and a variety of habitats. About 50% of all climbers, and most seasoned climbers, choose the Machame route.
The Machame route is also known as the Whiskey route, given its reputation for being a tough climb, in contrast to the easier Marangu route, which is known as the Coca Cola route. Unlike the gradual incline and hut accommodations found on the Marangu Route, the climbers on Machame hike steeper trails, for longer distances, while sleeping in tents.
Despite it being a little more difficult it is highly recommended because it provides a fantastic trail and great views along the way. We are looking very to taking you on a trip of a lifetime.
Walk through the Cheviot Hills from Scotland to England en-route to Britain's very own Galapagos. The St Cuthbert’s Way is a long-distance path that was established in 1996. The route reflects the life of this 7th century monk, extending from Melrose Abbey in the Scottish borders, where he became bishop to the island of Lindisfarne just off the coast of Northumberland in northeast England, where he was buried. So the ‘Way’ links places associated with his life. It includes a variety of delightfully unspoilt countryside: the Tweed Valley (origin of the famous woollen cloth), the Eildon Hills, the Cheviot Hills (origin of one of the most famous breeds of sheep), and the Northumberland coast with its broad horizons, sandy beaches and dramatic contrasts between high and low tide. The small historic towns en route - Melrose, Kirk Yetholm and Wooler - are equally unspoilt and offer a pleasant contrast with the thinly populated countryside. There is an abundance of historical features, including ruined abbeys at Melrose and Lindisfarne, the battle site at Harestanes Moor and old castles. The standard route is intended to be walked in 4 long days, but we have made several modifications to make the day stages slightly shorter and perhaps more interesting. The tour ends on Lindisfarne, but we recommend that if you have time, you opt for the extended tour which takes you back to the mainland and the beautiful village of Bamburgh overlooked by its grand castle and further down the coast, past the magnificent ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle to near the ancient kipper producing village of Craster.
