Simple stays with essential amenities. Typically guesthouses, hostels or hotels rated below 3 stars — clean, no-frills, and great for value-conscious travelers.
Comfortable and reliable 3-star stays. Expect private rooms, en-suite bathrooms, and solid amenities — a great balance between comfort and cost.
Upscale 4-5 star hotels and lodges. Enjoy high-end service, refined comfort, and premium locations — ideal for travelers seeking extra indulgence.
Loved this tour, fast paced but not too much, really well structured so you felt you saw all of the must sees in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Highlights have to be the Fjords and ABBA Museum. Used good hotels, all comfortable, great breakfasts and close to good public transport. Did most of the optionals and would really recommend them, they were usually far cheaper than doing it yourself. First tour with Expat, they offer really good value and we will be using them again

Since it was a mixed nationals group very nice our guide was also very punctual very cooperative and informative. Hotel quality inn was not up to mark. No consistency in room facilities like no kettle water bottle or pantry that was little surprising. Overall experience was good.
Delve into the heart of Northern Europe on the "Copenhagen and Poland" tour, a five-day sightseeing journey designed for seniors. Starting in Copenhagen and ending in Warsaw, this group trip also visits Szczecin, offering a taste of Denmark, Poland, and Germany. With hotels, meals, and transport included, the easy pace allows for meaningful cultural exploration. Its unique value lies in the concise yet comprehensive itinerary, making it ideal for those seeking a short but rich European trip.
Loved Scandinavia and Baltics tour. I have travelled with various companies on multiple tours and Diarmaid is the best leader I have had and we loved Sylvian (our driver) too.
The accommodation was great - the ferries particularly a highlight. I only wish we had more time in Riga and Tallinn (but fortunately I had been there before). I recommend the Fjord optional in Norway but, if you are happy to do your own research, save your money on the city 'plus' optionals for the well-earned tip for your tour leader and driver.
Gdansk and Bergen were particular highlights.

Had read a lot about Expat Explore but always set my expectations lower than the advertising hype. Was pleasantly surprised when the tour was better than I expected. The locations, excursions - both included and extra - were phenomenal. The pace was a little daunting for this 70+ woman with mobility issues but everyone sort of looked out for each other. It was a good mix of ages and overall a great group to travel with. Our oach driver was great and our tour guide had lots of pertinent info for us, was a great administrator and excelled at "herding cats"....keeping us together and on schedule.

18th Sept 2025 departure. Absolutely fantastic tour led by the effervescent Tove, a native Norwegian lady who imparted her love for all things Norway to us in fun ways during the tour. Norway astounded me with her natural beauty, the first wow moment on day one of touring was at Voringsfossen, an incredible waterfall with amazing views down the valley. And things just got better from there. A lovely mix of hotels in beautiful locations, a couple of 2 night stays were welcome for a more relaxed pace as well. Blessed with fantastic weather for most of the trip with a sunny day at Geirgangerfjord and an impromptu berry picking stop along the way. It was a good mix of experiences from fjords, glaciers, coastal, cultural and has definitely whet my appetite to see more of Norway in the future. Great group of people on the tour as well. It was a fantastic experience all around and makes me keen to join another Back Roads Tour in the future. Tove is an absolute treasure - you will be incredibly lucky if you have her as your guide on this tour.
