Kenya's week-long safari adventure was an unforgettable journey, taking us from the breathtaking elephant herds of Amboseli National Park beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, to serene early-morning boat rides among hippos on Lake Naivasha, and the vibrant birdlife of Lake Nakuru, where hundreds of species filled the skies. It concluded with the wildlife-rich plains of the Masai Mara, where we encountered lions, rhinos, giraffes, and zebras in their natural habitat. I’m an amateur wildlife photographer and booked this safari mainly to shoot the “Big Five.” I wasn’t disappointed.
The 4x4 vehicles had pop-up roofs which made it super easy to get clear shots. The guides were patient and even repositioned the vehicle to help me get better angles. I got shots of a male lion at golden hour, a herd of elephants with dust clouds swirling, and flamingos creating a pink blanket over Lake Nakuru.
Even beyond the animals, Kenya is photogenic as heck—acacia trees silhouetted against the sunset, Maasai people in their beautiful red garments, and of course, Mount Kilimanjaro standing quietly in the background at Amboseli.
This wasn’t just a vacation—it was a creative recharge. I’m already editing my portfolio to include a “Kenya” section!

Thanks to the tour operator flexibility, we actually did a 12-day tour of Kenya and Tanzania and it was fabulous. Our two guides, Brian and Elly, were fun, friendly, flexible and knowledgeable. We shared a lot of laughs and developed a strong bond in our short time together, and we saw every animal we'd hoped to see (plus some) thanks to them. Customer service was excellent. They responded to emails in a timely manner, changed the schedule around a bit so that we could fly into and out of Nairobi, booked a hotel for the night we arrived without even being asked, and upgraded our accommodations.
