We had a brilliant trip in July seeing the wonderful Baltic countries. The weather was very kind, the group and our guide wonderful. We all learnt so much about the hard and dramatic history the Baltic countries have experienced and their hard won independence.

Scandinavia has astonishing sightseeing for those who like nature or history. The experience was even better with Contiki. Ollie our trip manager and Tamas our drive provide a lot of historical information, curiosities and we were able to drive to some other places for sightseeing. Highly recommend it.

Few itineraries feature such contrasting destinations in a single trip—but our 17-day Scotland to Spitsbergen: Puffins, Sea Ice and Wildlife voyage does just that. You’ll start in Scotland, exploring the Shetland and Orkney Islands—visiting impressive bird colonies and Scottish Neolithic historical sites—then cross the Norwegian Sea to the seldom-visited Bear Island, which sits alone and isolated between mainland Norway and Svalbard. Because you’re traveling in May, you’ll encounter plenty of ice in the many fjords we’ll visit, such as Storfjorden. These ice-covered expanses increase our chances of seeing walruses, polar bears, seals and other wildlife. In addition to our seasoned Expedition Team, you’ll also learn from our special guest ornithologist and historian, who will join us for the entire voyage.
Our 11 (or 12) day Svalbard in Spring: Sea Ice, Pristine Snow and Wildlife is a rare opportunity to visit the Norwegian High Arctic when Svalbard is bathed in 24 hours of daylight, yet the landscape remains entrenched in its snow-clad Arctic splendor. Entire mountains are still cloaked in snow and expansive sea ice, including fast ice. You have the unique privilege of witnessing the Arctic “waking up.” Birds arrive, filling the silence with their calls. Meltwater begins to trickle, ice cracks and pops, and the ground starts to thaw. Tiny shoots may appear through the melting snow—a quiet yet grand rebirth unfolding, echoing life’s cycle on an Arctic scale.
