Don't attempt this trip unless you know exactly what you're getting yourself into. And be aware that no matter how fit you are, altitude sickness can still strike you down. That's why you MUST use a reputable company like World Expeditions for a trek like this. My husband became ill on Day 3. Our trek leader was able to release a guide and a porter to get him back to Arusha and to hospital. I succumbed to a chest infection 5 days later and couldn't summit. Again, I was issued with a guide to get me safely to the next camp. Each of the 5 people in our group who did climb to the summit had a guide to ensure nothing went wrong. This was not the case for other tourists who attempted the climb. I heard stories of people wandering about alone at the top- disoriented and lost. Some groups didn't provide emergency oxygen. That meant their clients had to be dragged down the mountain, often barely unconscious.

A really excellent trip. In just over a week we had game drives in several different environments (forest, open plains, the Ngorongoro Crater) and had some truly magical experiences. Visiting the Olduvai Gorge to learn about humans' early ancestors was a moving experience. Our visit to a Maasai village helped us to see and understand something of their way of life. We stayed mainly in luxury tented camps (Tortillis Camps), which were spotlessly clean, very comfortable and run by a team of very helpful staff.

We begin in spectacular Tarangire National Park known for its elephant populations and prolific birdlife where wildlife viewing is at its best from June to October (bird watching is excellent from November to May). Book this 3-day trip with us and get the chance to enjoy guided gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Nation Park. The national park has been so named because of the dense undergrowth as well as vines and creepers that festoon the trees, making it difficult to travel through even as the mysterious, haunting atmosphere they create is awesome.
Drive to the national park on the first day of the trip. Check into your accommodation upon arriving there late in the afternoon after which you are free for the rest of the day. Travel through the forest on the second day of the trip in search of gorillas. Upon spotting the band of gorillas that has been assigned to you, you can spend around an hour watching them before hiking back to your accommodation.
