Why Choose a Group Tour in Patagonia?

Patagonia Is Remote, and Remote Gets Expensive Fast

In Patagonia, a missed bus or unavailable lodge is not a minor inconvenience; it can reshape the whole trip. Distances are long, services are limited, and last-minute fixes can be costly. A group tour helps secure transport, accommodation, park access, and route timing in advance. It also spreads the cost of logistics such as transfers, guided hikes, and remote-area coordination, which can be expensive when arranged privately.

The Trail Feels Better With the Right People Around You

Patagonia’s hikes are rewarding, but wind, weather, distance, and changing trail conditions can test even experienced travelers. A small group adds a sense of camaraderie without crowding the experience. You have people to share early starts, windy viewpoints, packed lunches, glacier moments, and post-hike meals with. For solo travelers, that shared rhythm is a major benefit: the trip still feels adventurous, but not isolating.

Small Groups Make Wild Places More Accessible

Patagonia works best at a smaller scale. Trails, refugios, vans, lodges, viewpoints, and border crossings are easier with up to 16 travelers than with a large group. The experience feels more intimate, and guides can better manage pacing, weather calls, safety briefings, and individual hiking comfort levels. That smaller size also suits the landscape. Patagonia is about space, silence, and scale — not shuffling behind a crowd in matching rain jackets.

Planning Support Matters When Weather Has Opinions

Patagonia’s weather is not background noise; it is part of the itinerary. Wind, rain, cloud, and sudden shifts can affect hikes, boat trips, viewpoints, and border days. A group tour gives travelers practical support when plans need adjusting. Guides know when to start early, when to wait, when to push on, and when the mountain is politely telling everyone to stop being foolish. That local judgment is hard to replace.

The tour took us to all the interesting and beautiful parts of Scotland. The Orkney Islands, Isle of Skye and Glencoe were highlights. The trip was everything I hoped it would be.

This is a nice and easy cycling trip (except for the optional day which involves a large hill) cycling along the Canal and also rides into the country. Distances are not too far. Hotel/accommodation locations are good. Lots of good food available so don’t expect to lose weight

It is a good balance between going to major attractions in larger cities and visiting some smaller, lesser known places that are just lovely. Our tour guide, Brad, knows so much about both countries, as well as Gibraltar, that I learned so much while thoroughly enjoying this vacation.

The hotel chosen in Madrid was not up to standard. Our luggage was delivered to the wrong room and not found for 11/11/2 hours. Just got sorted and they had to change our room because air con wasn’t working. Also there was not enough food at the dinner buffet on the last night. Those of us at the end of the line faced empty dishes that were not replaced. I ended up with soup and cheese and biscuits and some vegetables. Definitely not up to Insight standards.

Our tour leader Bruno Randrianantenaina was excellent. It was his first tour with Explore. I would highly recommend him for future Explore tours. He is extremely knowledgeable, has a great and kind personality. The local guide for the hiking was very good too. His name was Filbert. I didn't enjoy The Artisan Hotel very much. The rooms were very dark.

I loved all the places we visited. Each of them had a unique flair that when put together and viewed as a whole give you a taste of the truly amazing Spain and Portugal.
