Reviews of our Tbilisi Tours for July
Feedback from guests whose tour started in/around Tbilisi during July.
The trip leader, Nick, is outstanding in every sense - intelligent, kind and witty. His knowledge of Georgia and his caring towards its people and history were wholehearted. I loved hearing about the history of each site we visited and went for being ignorant to well informed about this beautiful country. I felt that the itinerary was perfect. It was hot (July) and that made cycling harder. Do read the trip notes before going, you need to be relaxed on roads with traffic and be ready to make a significant effort as the cycling is challenging. Most felt that it was harder than moderate. The support team were excellent too, helpful and kind. The food was also outstanding with many homemade meals which were copious and delicious. Such a treat! I met some superb people and much enjoyed their company. Georgia is beautiful and a few of the roads were truly spectacular in terms of scenery. I do wish that the bikes had tires more suitable for road riding as so much energy was wasted due to mountain bike tires which aren’t at all needed. I’m glad that I chose Georgia and over the moon to have had Nick as our guide.
A wonderful trip with a great group. Nick the leader was great, extremely informative both about his country but also with his detailed briefings prior to every ride. The trip was well run and a perfect blend of culture, history and enjoyable cycling. The cycling is reasonably challenging at times and a level of fitness and experience on roads with heavy traffic is needed. It is hilly with some stiff climbs made more so by the hot temperatures we experienced in July. The provided mountain bikes where OK but would be much improved with semi slick tires. Accommodation and the food in particular was memorable, the later far exceeding expectations.
The tour was a beautiful pilgrimage to different monasteries, very high intensity, we enjoyed Armenian, music, culture and food. Visit to see of Holy Etchmiadzin and Holy Badarak was exceptional. Lake Sevan, views of Majestic mouth Ararat will never be forgotten. Delicious dinners, hands on cooking classes in Georgia and Armenia, made it a great tour of both learning and connection. Most evenings concluded with traditional song or dance and the group seemed to love that. Visit to the vineyards and wine tasting in Georgia was also special. It was a wonderful opportunity to visit and see contrasts in the culture.
This was a great “taster” insight into two countries that I hadn’t really considered visiting before and the tour gave me just enough to have a great time whilst leaving so much more for a return visit.
Being across two countries, we had two leaders for our tour. Both were excellent, albeit in different ways. Both exhibited a fund of knowledge about their respective nations and both added greatly to the enjoyment of our travels.
The trip lived up to expectations on the whole. I think we were extremely lucky going in July as the wild flower meadows were at their peak and were absolutely breath taking in colour, variety of flowers and volume. The homestays were more comfortable than I expected and the hospitality was warm and friendly. Lasha, our guide, was great fun and friendly. We had some rain but not enough to be a problem, most of the walking were in very warm, humid conditions. Vegetarians be aware the food choice is extremely limited and all meals mainly consist of bread, eggs, cheese, tomatoes and cucumber. Some of the walks finished early afternoon and there is nothing to do around some of the homestays so be prepared with books etc. On the whole a very memorable and thoroughly enjoyable trip
