Tarangire National Park Safari 2024/2025

The Tarangire isn’t located on the main safari route, and this means that it is always less crowded than its counterparts. Since most tourists skip the park altogether, the Tarangire feels undisturbed and untouched, presenting the perfect safari atmosphere for the 160,000 souls who do take out the time to come here each year.

Fantastic Tanzania Safari
5 - Excellent
  • Eileen Hoeh
My Husband and I we went on a safari with this tour operator and was an excellent safari from the beginning to the end. it took us 3 months to finalize our itinerary with them, In addition to their in-depth knowledge, we also love that they listen to their clients, take the time to chat about our trip with us as much as we want, and then make suggestions based on what we feel would be best for us. We are also thankful that Daudi is always looking for the best deal that is within our budget and provides the best value for money. We had a an incredible guide, his name is Herman. There aren’t enough adjectives to describe how amazing Herman is. He’s an exceptional guide. He puts his guests’ safety first. He knows everything there is to know about animals. He has a great personality and an amazing sense of humour! I can’t tell you how many times me and my husband laughed till we cried. I didn’t know what to expect when we set off for Africa. Herman gave us a trip we’ll never forget. I wasn’t expecting to learn so much and broaden my horizons. Thank you so much Herman! The memories we’ll make with you will last a lifetime. You’re one of a kind. We’re looking forward to seeing you in the future. This company has my highest recommendation, and I hope they will continue to plan my safaris for many more years to come.
Absolutely perfect Safari Agency!

Our trip to Tanzania was well curated by this company. From our first chats with Joan, we felt comfortable to proceed with booking with this company. Booking with local company makes us feel the great contribution to the local economy. Our guide was very helpful and informative, he did everything he could to make us comfortable and informed. The safari camp, Suenos was best and in the center of wilderness, with greater views of wildlife. It was amazing to here the sound of animals at mid-night and we will never forget this experience. One thing of note is flexibility the company have on planing of our trip. We will get back to this company again and again when we travel to Tanzania again. Thanks to Brian, Judith and our travel planner Joan, we enjoyed every moment with you guys in Tanzania.

"The most breathtaking experiences courtesy of this local tour operator. The safari gave my family an opportunity to connect with local communities. We visited a nearby village and had the chance to interact with the friendly locals, learning about their culture, traditions, and way of life. It was a humbling experience that enriched our understanding of the region. The sunset game drive was incredible, as the golden sun dipped below the horizon, we found ourselves surrounded by the enchanting sounds of nature. The air was filled with the calls of birds, the distant roar of lions, and the rustling of leaves as animals emerged for their evening activities. It was a truly magical moment that I will cherish forever. Finally, the food and hospitality throughout the safari were exceptional. From delicious traditional meals to refreshing sundowner drinks in the bush, every aspect of our stay was meticulously taken care of. The combination of incredible wildlife encounters, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality made this safari experience truly unforgettable. "

Tarangire National Park - Overview and Facts

Tarangire is one of the most underrated national parks in Tanzania, and its proximity to the Ngorongoro and the Serengeti doesn’t help either. That said, this is the best place to see elephants in numbers you usually expect with cattle and hear the roar of the lion at night. After all, 700 lions call the park their home. Other animals found in Tarangire include leopards, cheetahs, eland, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, and as many as 450 species of birds. Tarangire National Park gets the following relevant safari ratings:

  • Wildlife Rating: 4 stars out of 5
  • Scenery Rating: 4 stars out of 5
  • Bush Vibe: 4 stars out of 5

Watching exotic birds and the elephant migration is the best thing to do in Tarangire, but it also presents a game viewing area which is 10 times larger than the Manyara National Park and incredibly concentrated during the months of July to August. And those animals and birds present just one aspect of this natural oasis. Tarangire also hosts thousands of majestic baobab trees and this alone should be reason enough to visit the park.

The best thing to do is daytime game driving, but night safaris and walking safaris are also a possibility. And while there are no boat safaris in the national park, certain operators offer fly-camping expeditions.

Pros and Cons of Tarangire

One of the biggest advantages of visiting the Tarangire National Park is that it is a real treat for elephant lovers. The park also hosts stunning baobab trees, thereby presenting the best all-round experience, particularly during the dry season, when its wildlife is restricted to certain areas. Moreover, a number of mid-range and luxury lodges can be found here and one has the option to add night safaris and walking expeditions into the itinerary. That said, the animals get scattered during the wet season and this means that the months June to October is the only time to visit the park.

Accommodation in Tarangire

There are a number of lodges that can be found along the border of Tarangire, and a couple that are located within park boundaries. Those searching for luxury options would fall in love with Swala while mid-range travelers can expect Olivers to offer value for money. Tarangire Treetops is another option worth checking out. Although located outside the park, its rooms are built in ancient baobab trees and this makes it one of the most fascinating properties in Africa.

Best Time to visit Tarangire

The game is highly concentrated during the dry season, i.e., the months of July to October, and this is the best time to visit the park. For the rest of the year, the animals migrate out to the Rift Valley floor and on the grazing grounds of the Maasai steppe. As a result, a trip to the Tarangire isn’t advisable during the wet season.

Extend Your Vacation from Tarangire

It is easy to extend your vacation while visiting the Tarangire National Park. The closest city is Arusha, and you could spend a couple of days exploring its chaotic beauty and African culture. The Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Center and the Lake Manyara National Park are also located close by.
