This was our first actual trip with this tour company and it was all that we hoped for, and more. The balance of walking, wine tasting and culture was spot on! Villa Casalta accommodation was great - simple in a traditional way, owner and Marguerite warmly welcoming and helpful, beautiful swimming pool (used by several of us even though it was end of Sept), entertaining dog (Stella) and cat, with only a slow off-road 20 minute walk to pretty town of Castellina.
Our Italian Christmas & New Year Delights trip was amazing!! This was our first time being away during the holidays, which are typically spent with family. But the people we met on the tour made it so worth it. They were from all over the world and we bonded so well that it filled the void of missing family during this time of year. We walked away friending so many more special people. Our tour leader, Shabby-Elliot Flanders, was the best!!! She's organized and so knowledgeable of where to go, what to see and what to eat. She's full of fun facts and just a wonderful person to spend the trip with. She stretched us beyond our comfort zones. She's definitely an excellent fit for this job and has a super zeal for exploring this wonderful world. Our bus driver, Carmine, was wonderful and pleasant. He got us to our destinations safely and skillfully. Our tour days were packed and we saw and tasted so many beautiful parts of Italy. This tour gave us a better appreciation of the country, its regional characteristics and exposure to some wonderful foods. The accommodations were fine overall. There were some facilities that were average and we were thankful they were just an overnight stay. For the price point, this tour is an excellent value and you receive quite a bit for your "buck".
This was our first trip with this tour operator, it was well organised, everything was as per the trip notes & I would certainly look at other holidays by this company.
As a frequent traveller with this tour operator I was yet to try a walking holiday. The Chianti Walking and Wine seemed to be a good mix of walks, wine tasting and sightseeing and I was not disappointed with my choice. Having only had a few days in Rome before I really enjoyed getting to know this part of Tuscany.
This was my 10th trip with this tour operator in 4 years so I am already a fan and it almost provided us with what we'd hoped for. There was a good balance of walking, wine tasting and sight-seeing. The days spent in Florence, Siena and San Gimignano were not at all rushed and we had ample time to do all that we planned. It was also great to be driven in by Simon our wonderful guide. It meant that we spent very little time travelling. Villa Casalta accommodation was simple in a traditional way and our room was beautiful and very clean. We were given a very warm greeting from Roberta on our arrival and she waved us off on our departure however for the rest of the week we hardly saw her. The swimming pool was lovely to sit around but very cold to swim in during October although I did mange it one afternoon. The location is lovely with a pleasant 20 minute walk to pretty town of Castellina along a gravel road.
This is a good week. The programme is good and varied. The accommodation was fine ( apart from the midges) This is not a good trip for me. It was to,introduce a friend to this tour company. I shall upgrade next time!
