This trip was a great way to see the top highlights while leaving you wanting to explore more! Perfect 'Discovery' trip! There are a lot of flights and the airline can move around the timings so you have to be flexible and open to late nights/early starts. There really is no other way to cover so much distance in just 2 weeks. Its well worth the travel as you get to see 2 completely different sides of Chile, the Desert and Salt flats of the North and the Lakes and Mountains of the South, both equally beautiful but very different. The food wasn't as expensive as I thought, similar pricing to London restaurants so by no means cheap but not unaffordable and if you take some snacks with you its easy to skip lunches as dinner portions in every restaurant we went to are very generous. The hotels were clean, spacious and comfortable. The only pool in use (we were early in the season) was in San Pedro. Both optional excursions are well worth doing but I would recommend doing a little research into star constellations before going to help things make more sense as its a lot of information to take in. Our guide Miguel was very knowledgeable and clearly loves his country and the outdoors we were in good hands especially in the National parks as he knows the area well. He is also a keen photographer so we were going to great photo locations and he was always willing to stop the bus whenever wildlife or a good photo angle was spotted! There are long drives, but the scenery was so beautiful that the drives were just as special as the walks and plenty of stops to stretch our legs or take a photo or toilet stop.
Can't imagine that you can beat this trip in diversity, both in sceneries, the best that Chile has to offer and the many optional side trips that are actually part of the trip and no added costs required. Great value for the money. Tour leader Miguel Angel Lara was the best. This is my 6th trip with the tour operator and he was the best so far. My luck indeed.
My wife Laura and I had an amazing day touring Portillo and San Esteban Vineyards with Estela and Patricio! They picked us up right at our hotel and were extremely accommodating when we ended up having a special request. We also explored an archaeological site with petroglyphs when we got to San Esteban. The wine we had, In Situ Carmenere and a white wine, were both so delicious and the grounds were beautiful. Portillo was breathtaking and Estela and Patricio were the perfect guides, friendly, accommodating, and fun to be around. Would definitely recommend to a friend or take another tour with them if we end up back in Chile!!
Emanuel has an amazing sense of humor, you won't be bored with him. He can tell stories and jokes, his laughter is contagious. From the moment he picked me up I knew it was going to be a good tour because he was punctual and friendly. It felt like a private tour because it was only a Brazilian couple and myself. We visited three wineries and Emanuel explained which tastings to purchase, his suggestions were right on target. At lunch time he asked what our preferences were and based on our answers he picked a restaurant with an amazing view of the vineyards. The food was delicious and fresh. I had the rabbit with herbs. The tour included three wineries, each different from the other. The first one was big and and modern looking, the sommelier was knowledgeable albeit the tasting felt a bit rushed. The second winery was smaller, a more quaint and charming place with an interesting wine cellar. Chilean wines are excellent. After three wineries and lunch, traveling back to Santiago can become a long tiresome trip. But it wasn't for us. Having Emanuel as our tour guide made our return fun as we all shared stories and laughs. I cannot finish this review by congratulating Emanuel for his open mind attitude. He congratulated me on my recent gay wedding. His words were genuine.
My wife and I were picked up at our hotel in Santiago promptly. After collecting 6 other people, we were first taken to a winery where we given the option to join a wine tasting session (my wife and I opted out). Then on we went around Via del Mar making several stops along the way for photo ops. We were then taken to a wonderful restaurant in Valparaiso with great view and excellent food. After lunch, we were taken on a walking tour of the streets of Valparaiso with its vibrant street art. Our guides Vanessa and Patrick were excellent. The tour felt felt very casual and un-rushed (in fact I'm pretty sure we exceed the number of hours stated in the tour promo). Unlike other tours where schedules are quite rigid and by the numbers, this tour felt more like a day out with friends showing you around. Vanessa made us feel at ease and relaxed from the get go and made sure everyone was enjoying the tour. Overall, this was one of the best tours we've had -- thanks to our guides. Highly recommend.
Vanessa was our guide and she was one of the best guides I have had. Her English is great and interacted with us with no problems. We had a small group of 4, it made the experience even better. We all got along great. Stop were adjusted as needed because it was a rainy day, but we saw and walked much of the very colorful and amazing hills of Valparaiso. Went to Vina del Mar for such as the Castle of the Sea, offering great views and really good food. Made a couple of stop around after lunch and then headed to a winery in the Casablanca valley. Price was great for being all day, covering all the tolls, parking and stops. Only extra was lunch, souvenirs, and if you wanted a wine tasting, it was extra. Go and hopefully you get Vanessa.
