I recently completed the 7-day Lemosho Route hike to Mount Kilimanjaro, and the experience far exceeded my expectations—especially in terms of safety, professionalism, and overall organization. From the moment we began the trek, the crew’s attention to safety was clear. Our guides were exceptionally well-trained and experienced, conducting daily health checks that included monitoring oxygen levels and asking detailed questions about how we felt. They were incredibly proactive in spotting early signs of altitude sickness and adjusted the pace and rest stops accordingly. This gave our entire group the confidence and peace of mind to fully enjoy the journey. The Lemosho Route itself is both beautiful and well-paced for acclimatization. We walked through rainforest, crossed high moorland, and trekked over alpine desert—each day offering a new challenge and new scenery. Thanks to the route’s gradual ascent and the crew’s careful pacing, everyone in our group adapted well and reached the summit successfully. The support team—porters, chef, and camp staff—also played a huge role in keeping us safe and comfortable. Camps were set up promptly and securely, meals were warm, nutritious, and catered to our energy needs, and clean drinking water was always provided. Hygiene at camp was clearly a priority, and handwashing stations and daily sanitization made a big difference. On summit night, the guides ensured we were fully prepared both mentally and physically. Their encouragement, constant monitoring, and careful pacing made a very difficult climb feel achievable and safe. If you’re looking to hike Kilimanjaro and safety is a top concern, I highly recommend the Lemosho Route—and even more so, doing it with a professional, experienced team that prioritizes your health every step of the way. It was not just a successful summit, but a safe and unforgettable journey to the Roof of Africa.

THIS WAS FANTASTIC!!! I could not recommend this tour company any more highly. Every aspect of the trip was exceeded and we were surprised everyday with a new adventure. The mountain and the route were fantastic, but what really made this such a worthwhile investment were the guides. Everyone encouraged us, the entire time. The food was fantastic, the accommodations were superb and the equipment was top notch. I also really appreciated the organization of the tour company, which made us feel like we were in great hands. Book local!

Based on a friend's recommendation, myself and 3 others planned a trek organized by local travel specialists for February 2022. We truly worked with a dream team! They were wonderful to work with from the start. We had to postpone a few times due to the pandemic in 2020, and our trip organizer was more than accommodating in working with us to reschedule for one person in the group's 40th birthday to be the date we summit! In February of 2022 we all flew out to do an 8 day Lemosho route on Kilimanjaro! the organizer made it super easy by meeting us at the airport and then transporting us to the hotel we were staying at the evening before our trek. We were able to meet our guides for the trip and they were able to review the gear we brought to make sure we had what we needed! The next morning we set off on our trek. Our guides were patient with our group's varied abilities and helped us all to feel energized and excited for each adventure. We were offered many breaks and got to learn a lot about the flora and fauna we passed as well as about Tanzanian culture. We were amazed by just how nice everyone was from the tour organizing team. Our porters were incredibly strong and fast, they would break down camp after we had already started hiking, pass us during the hike, and have camp set up for us before we got there! Our chef and waiter (yes a waiter!) were amazing. At each meal we were fed multi course feasts with a variety of options! One member of our group had dietary restrictions and they were able to accommodate her and make separate portions to meet her needs! We were all full and very happy after each meal. With each meal we also were offered hot water for tea, coffee or coco and they provided all the fixings you could want to go with your meal or drinks. The accommodations on the mountain were wonderful, we had spacious tents that you could easily sit up in for camping with thick warm sleeping pads. For dinning, they provided a full tent with table chairs and even a tablecloth. The guides were wonderful in helping our group acclimate appropriately and monitored everyone's health in a respectful, encouraging way, never making anyone feel discouraged no matter how the altitude or weather was affecting them. We had 2 members of the group that were having some issues with the altitude, and our dream team thought ahead and two porters agreed to assist our group with the summit. The two porters helped carry the gear for the 2 individuals having issues and all the guides and porters helped encourage and lead our team up for the summit push. One member started to feel very lightheaded and the guides were able to help her work through her dizziness, assess if it was wise to continue and then monitored her carefully as we continued up. Thanks to the amazing oversight from the team, all 4 of us made it to the summit! Even more amazing was that at the summit, for the birthday, the guides pulled out a birthday sign and balloons for her and we all got to take a birthday picture with the summit sign! Even more amazing was later that evening after we got to our final camp, the chef surprised the birthday girl with a beautiful and delicious birthday cake! We truly did have a dream team with Bakari leading the way and Omary always ready for a laugh! We could not recommend using the local travel specialists enough, they were wonderful to work with and we all had an amazing time hiking Kilimanjaro with them!

We booked our Kilimanjro trek on the Lemosho route through Zara Tours for a couple of reasons. To start with their cost very competitive in comparison to similar established companies of such repute. The reservation staff were quick to respond to our queries and provided excellent responses. The whole trek went was seamless, from the initial pick-up at the airport, transfer to the hotel meeting the guides, adventure up/down Kilimanjaro to our departure flight. We spent eight unforgettable days on the mountain with expert crew under the leadership of Shabaan. It was not only physically challenging but required mental strength and determination propelled by our guides motivation when our tanks dipped. They ensured our health through actual health tests, food was excellent and the tents comfortable (warm, clean & dry). I highly recommend Zara Tours for Kilimanjaro.

This tour operator was a great price and the porters and guides were AMAZING. The accommodations both on and off the mountain were better than I expected and the lodges and hotel were especially nice. All of the food was great and my gluten allergy was easily addressed ahead of time. The convenience of how the company staff set up everything for us in advance made everything hassle-free. Both my friend and I summited Kilimanjaro and we would not have been able to do so without the support of both of our guides and porters. The safaris were beautiful and we saw Tanzania's Big Five EASILY. I highly recommend this company to anyone wanting to climb Kilimanjaro, do adventure or sightseeing hikes, or who just might want only a safari. I am already planning on utilizing this company next June for when I hopefully return to Kilimanjaro with more friends and to also ascend Mount Meru. I highly recommend our guide, Baraka Ayo!! He was VERY professional, met our needs, any concerns we might have had, were immediately addressed, not that I had any anyway, and he coordinated every day of our six-night trek perfectly! I climbed on the "Roof of Africa". I spent a month looking for the best company and found this one to satisfy all my criteria. I'm so glad that I've chosen them. They are really the number one company in Tanzania. They provided excellent service, starting from initial communication, support in preparation for the trip and summit itself. All our team, five members including a 61-year-old man, successfully made it to the top! After Kilimanjaro I also traveled to a couple of Tanzanian national parks with this same company. Everything was great. Highly recommended!
