Stop looking and book Altezza for your climb!

Just returned from our 7-day climb up the Machame trail with this travel operator and I truly can't say enough amazing things about the company & the folks working there! To set the stage, we were a small group of three women in our early 30s from Chicago IL, USA.To start, the booking process is incredibly easy and Stasia couldn't have been more helpful via email. We had months and months of questions leading up to the hike and she answered in detail within minutes. The company has a helpful packing list, and you can rent anything you don't want to spend money on buying. When we landed at Kilimanjaro airport our driver was waiting for us, was helpful with our luggage, and made us feel right at home. Upon arrival to the hotel, Ana was so kind and helpful with check in. She went through our gear check in detail & asked great questions about what we brought along to ensure we were prepared. The next morning we woke up to meet one of our two guides, Edwin. Right off the bat Edwin made us feel comfortable and we knew it was going to be a great seven days together. We arrived to the Machame gate for checkin and a yummy lunch + to meet the rest of our team consisting of another guide (Joshua) and our team of 13 porters. They were all smiles and brought such amazing energy! The rest of our time spent on the mountain was perfection! Joshua and Edwin did a wonderful job of evaluating how we were feeling and hiking us along as they felt fit. The three of us are in good shape and they could tell we could go a bit faster than other groups. Every few hours they magically brought out hot tea during break time. Once you start to get a bit higher and it gets colder, this becomes a highlight! Not to mention some of our best conversations happened while overlooking a gorgeous view sipping tea all together. Each day we got to camp everything was ready to go! They provide warm water both in the morning and evening to wash up. You also get coffee/ tea in your tent in the morning. The meals were delicious (for real!!) and we never went hungry. They even brought us a cake for New Years AND our chef made one on our last morning. I can't bake a cake in my condo let alone on a mountain! Also, I'm a veggie and they went above and beyond to ensure I had something separate to eat. Each meal also has hot water to make more tea or coffee; again a perk when it's freezing! Before you head to sleep they give you a stuffed bunny with a hot pod of water inside. It warms your sleeping bag right up and made going to bed in the cold so much better. Such a lovely add on.When it came to feeling safe, our guides made sure we were feeling great each step of the way. They checked our heart rate and oxygen levels twice a day and when climbing steeper boulders made sure we felt safe. They also made sure we were drinking as much water as possible throughout the day.On summit morning, despite crazy wind, snow, hail, and cold, we never once felt unsafe or like we couldn't do it. Edwin, Joshua, and Frank (a porter who summited with us) did everything from pushing hair out of our faces, re-buckling our backpacks, unzipping and rezipping coats, opening up hand warmers, and even giving us words of encouragement. When we reached the top it felt like such a team effort! In summary, this company goes above and beyond from start to finish. They truly care about your experience & safety. It was an INCREDIBLE adventure filled with an amazing team (our rafikis!) we miss dearly. Do yourself a favor and book this company and ask for Joshua and Edwin's team. You won't regret it!

Climbing Kilimanjaro with a group of & as a 68 year old

Picked this operator online without any other source of information. Could not have been happier. Service was very prompt and courteous, prices were much better than US based firms. Safety was the primary concern with comfort a close second. Luxurious seems an odd word given the environment, but not far off. Rentals were first rate quality. Unexpectedly, got a birthday cake at 12000 feet for one of our party. Guides and porters were lovely people.

Climbing Kilimanjaro

My father and I have just climbed Kilimanjaro Mount with this tour operator and everything was better than Id imaniginated! The organization, instalations of the camping tent and, mainly, the professionalism of the team that helped us from the beggining of the route Rongai up to reach the summit! Especially the guides Elipokei and Erick! Byond the knowledgement of the route, me, as a doctor, could noted that they really knew what they were doing about our health control especially even because my father is 67 years old and reacheted the Gilmanns point with their help.I deeply recommend this company!

Bucket list - check! Amazing people - check! Experience of a lifetime - check!

Where do I begin...the tour operator team was always super responsive and helpful with all of the silly questions I had prior to my trip. Pick up from the airport was provided - if you can, get your visa before you arrive. You can get it at the airport, however you'll wait for quite a while. I think it took me approx. 1-1.5 hours. The hotel, the staff and the food we stayed at for the first and last night was good. Breakfast and 2 bottles of water per room is included and our hotel also had a pool where you could watch monkey jumping from tree to tree :-) If you're planning to go somewhere after your hike, don't worry, you can leave extra luggage at the operator's office.I felt very safe and welcome all trip long. Our guide Victor and his team took very good care of us. We had medical checks twice a day to ensure the altitude wasn't getting at us. Everyone of us took Diamox for altitude sickness, which we got from our guide and I can highly recommend it. Just be aware that if you do, your feet, face and fingers might have a tickling sensation occasionally. The Umbwe route is considered the most difficult. Our group was aged 30-approx. 60 and we all prepared by going to the gym and doing some endurance training. Every one of us made it to the top! :-D Summit day/night is quite exhausting, since you'll be on your feet a lot.The team feeds you really well with breakfast, lunch and dinner and lots of tea and water. We all brought some nuts, protein bars, chocolates, etc. from home as snacks. At the end of our trip we tipped our guide (who then split it with all porters and the other guides). Everyone of us tipped USD 200 or more.I had the experience of a lifetime!

Very professional team

Haji, Jacob and the team that took my wife and I up the marangu route did an amazing job, throughout the climb, we were both reasonably new to mountaineering and their experience and utmost professionalism made the trip unforgettable. We were both consistently impressed with Haji and Jacob's knowledge of the mountain and they always went out of their way to ensure our health and wellbeing. They are very safety conscious and were the only guides that we saw who made the effort to conduct twice daily health checks (very important for such a quick climb) which was even commented on by other climbers. Hats off to Haji and the entire team for a fantastic experience.
