Wonderful trip. Our tour leader Tarkan & Assalti were enthusiastic, informative and knowledgeable about every aspect of the cities & culture of Turkey. Both were patient with me as I was not as quick on the bike up those hills as were my fellow tour members. -Diane C
Amazing trip. The cycle routes were a good challenge, very scenic and nicely broken up by drinks breaks and lunch stops. The food on offer was often simple but delicious. Our tour leader Tarkan was very friendly and knowledgable as was our other guide Ali who shared his love for the region and its history. The trip also included some very welcome swims in the sea after some tough climbs in the heat (it was Sept but still in the 30+ degs) and the boat trip and swim at the end of one morning of cycling was a highlight. The accommodation was varied but each room was clean. We had a really friendly, fun group and enjoyed evening meals in some lovely restaurants. Highly recommended.
My first Explore holiday and definitely won’t be my last. The leaders Tarkan and Ali were amazing. Tarkan saw to our every need and was confident in his leadership and knowledge. Ali was also wonderful and had an incredibly rich knowledge of Turkish history and wildlife. Together they made a great combination. The cycling was hot, hilly and hardwork, I wd rate it at above moderate personally but a great way to see the real Turkey. Going in Oct rather than Sept cd possibly be a better option with the heat. All in all a wonderful holiday, thank you
Great tour, very varied itinerary. The tour leaders were keen to ensure we had a good experience and gave us lots of information about Turkey. Bikes need little more attention on day to day basis and service after each tour.
I have been on 5 cycling holidays, and Explore Turkey cycling rates as one of the best. It is jam-packed not only with cycling but a range of fabulous activities and visits, from a mud bath on the first day which "broke the ice", a stunning trip on a gulet boat to Fethiye, visits to ancient sites, ecological visits, an amazing Turkish Bath (optional but well worth the experience!), not to mention the fabulous, authentic, Turkish food and diverse places that we cycled to. The hills of Turkey are rich with forests, lakes and isolated villages with stunning scenery and although some of the hills are challenging, there is invariably a picnic or tea stop at the top which makes the climb so rewarding. And of course, there is the back-up bus if you feel the climb is too difficult. A special shout-out to Paul the leader, who is extremely knowledgeable on Turkish history and culture and a really excellent cycle leader where nothing was too much trouble. I thoroughly recommend this trip but worth noting the trip notes – you will need a towel for the shower in the family accommodation. Plus, in October it was still hot (no complaints there!) but you will need high protection sun cream plus mosquito spray for the evenings, remembering to put it on which was something I forgot one night and paid the price. All in all a trip that I will remember fondly and so pleased I went.
A very good trip. My first ever cycling holiday of any kind and I was very impressed overall. The cycling itinerary was about right given how hot the weather was (30 C). If it had been cooler then I would probably have wanted a few more miles every day.
