Had a fantastic time with Explore, mostly because of my wonderful group and amazing guide, Su. He really is the best guide I've ever had, by some distance. The itinerary was OK but maybe a bit temple heavy in the first week. I also would've preferred to end at the seaside rather than Colombo. I was very happy with the accommodation, it wasn't massively luxurious but was always perfectly comfortable, and several of the hotels wildly exceeded my expectations. Food was great and we went to some really nice restaurants. The bus had a huge water dispenser where we could fill up for free, a lot better than relying on plastic water bottles like some other companies. The bus was small and would probably have felt very crowded if there were more of us, our group was luckily only 8 so we each got our own seat. It wasn't particularly comfortable but it got us where we needed - and thankfully it did have air con. Overall I definitely, definitely recommend this trip - especially with Su!
This was a very good trip. Our guide was excellent. I don't think climbing Adam's Peak should be included in the itinerary. There were 15 people on our tour and only 3 wanted to climb it. Two came back early the next morning and our whole group then had to wait for one person and our guide to return. We were not upset by this (as they had every right to do the climb) but it did mean that we did not get to our next stop before dark. We had to leave early the next day so we did not get to see Nuwara Eliya at all. I do think that the train trip Demodara should not be included on the itinerary as tickets were not available. Otherwise the trip was very well organised and we saw a lot of the countryside. I would recommend this trip to other travellers.
Excellent trip variety of places visited and gained a wonderful insight into Sri Lanka. Group was good company and the guide made sure we all enjoyed our holiday being very knowledgeable and helpful.
This was an amazing trip with such a varied itinerary - trying to remember everything we did at the end of it was quite a challenge. At the same time we didn’t feel over rushed although we were on the go much of the time. The hotels were great with really lovely swimming pools which we made the most of. We were lucky enough to travel with a great group of people who quickly became friends and to have a fantastic team taking us around this beautiful country.
Sri Lanka was an amazing country to experience. The Explore itinerary is well thought out to cover a variety of places and experiences, as much as it can be done in a short two weeks time. I loved the Sigiriya climb and the Hortons plains walk the most. And the elephants and their babies, of course. The accommodation was good. The food was plentiful, and usually not an issue to find something for everyone's taste. There were times when I felt we had been faced with one too many buffet options, when lighter choices would have been more desirable. But I understand that a buffet was usually the most expedient way to accommodate a group of our size. With 12 people in the group, mostly solo travellers, we had a very good dynamic. People were always included if they so desired, and also had the option to step out of the group bubble and do their own thing. Hector, our driver, was a joy to be around, always attentive, safe, and going out of his way to make sure we were all taken care of, always with a smile. Thank you Hector! And not the least, Nala, our tour leader, was the secret ingredient that made it all even better. Always with a big smile and a big heart, assessing everyone's needs and desires and trying to accommodate everyone, Nala was a treasure trove of information about Sri Lanka. Thank you Nala for sharing your love and passion for your country with us.
Highly recommend this tour, so many different highlights to mention them all but cycling the backroads through the rice fields, seeing the wonderful wildlife, felt like i was on the set of Madagascar on several occasions, even saw wild elephants. The tour guide, Suresh, and his team are great. Making sure everyone is well looked after, with regular breaks with great snacks, sampling some of the local dishes..the pancake with dessicated coconut being one highlight. 😋 The food was great, suresh organising some great lunch stops and also an evening meal demonstration from one of the local chefs was great, so good to get some curry tips and it tasted delicious.. This cycling tour is a great way to see the country, especially with suresh providing great commentary, good insights and passing on his knowledge and passion for his country.
