Each daily hike was carefully curated by our guide to best fit our group and the weather to showcase the Mont Blanc Tour. Breathtaking! The hospitality shown through our accommodation and food was excellent.
Great: the chalet, the hosts, Chamonix, the guide, the hikes, the rest day, my fellow hikers Not great: the altitude, at least at the beginning, then I got more used to it
This trip is the perfect balance of a short break that feels like you have been away for a month, in a good way. You are completely at one with nature and in the wild, the days are demanding and you are often leaving at 0730 each day and not getting back until around 1630/1700. You have a long time on your feet with big ascents and descents, all whilst surrounded by incredible mountains. I went the first week of September and we had a mixture of weather, which really gave us the full hiking experience, instead of being upset that it was raining with zero visibility, you were happy to be out in the elemensta and conquering cols. You will have switchbacks for breakfast and sore legs for dinner, however, if you are up for a challenge and enjoy the outdoors, good food and comradery then this trip is absolutely for you! 1 peiece of advise, pack light, and then if you think you have packed light enough, pack even lighter than that!
This was an amazing holiday with Explore. The scenery was spectacular and the itinerary varied. Denis our tour leader was bouncing with enthusiasm and was always looking out for us. We were a fairly small group of 9, most in our 60s but fit, and we gelled well together. This was a holiday with a wow around every corner.
Ten challenging but supremely rewarding walking days, each ending in comfortable accommodations with ample time to get clean, enjoy fantastic food, rest and recover for the next adventure. Three well-spaced rest days to relax and enjoy the charming towns of Chamonix, Courmayeur and St. Gervais. Breathtaking views of the Mont Blanc massif at all angles in various conditions. Life affirming moments overcoming the Cols (mountain passes). Delightful interactions with fellow trekkers from around the world, and exposure to French, Swiss and Italian cultures. Thrilling optional activities including tandem paragliding (highly recommended) and a visit to the amazing Aiguille du Midi.
Our hike leader Ellody was fantastic she took care to check each of us were ok with the pace. Ellody knew so much about the Alps PO pointing out interesting features and adding historical information. Ellody arranged a different lunch each day with the main event the cheese, a different one each day. The group I travelled with were lots of fun, we all got on well . The only part I found difficult was two of the refuges which gave use the worst rooms because we arrived later that everyone else. I found this strange as they knew we were arriving and felt they decided we were already committed so no need to care.
