Excellent

Amazing views. Interesting guide by Emmanuel. We loved the final stop st the reservoir with a break for a walk and picnic. It would be great if the tour involved some more hiking but you probably need to choose a different tour profile if you want to hike. All in all, highly recommended.

A highly recommended trip!

Our tour guide was Vanessa Villablanca. She picked us up at the hotel at 8 am. While we didn't book a private tour, it ended up just being our family of 4. She had a good vehicle that could handle the drive through the Cajon Del Maipo & Embalse El Yeso. Vanessa had great command of the points along the trip. She was so accommodating when we wanted to stop & get pics which we really appreciated. We went on a Saturday and unfortunately it was a long weekend for people of Santiago. As such it was PACKED. We left at 8 am and the drive was perfect up to about a 1/4 mile from Embalse El Yeso. TONS of car packed a very narrow dirt road making it virtually impassable. Luckily Vanessa had parked at the bottom of the entrance area, allowing us to avoid what would have been HOURS trying to get back down the hill. You do not want to do this drive yourself nor with a car that is not an SUV. Hire a driver. We had a little lunch which was very nice. Nothing like enjoying the beauty of the area. Vanessa set up a table and chairs. She is very personable and passionate for nature.

Portillo is a must see place in Chile!

Fantastic day out with our tour guide Frank and driver Jamie. Very informative and personal approach to the tour giving us insight of both the outer suburbs of Santiago, the countryside and and its inhabitants. Frank (having lived in both USA and South America) has a great understanding of both cultures which allowed him to engage with everyone on the tour almost seamlessly. Our driver Jamie was incredibly knowledgeable of the roads and terrain and got us there and back without a hitch. The roads heading through the canyon do get tenuous but we felt safe in his hands. All the most the scenery was breathtaking! All round great day and a highlight of our visit to Santiago.

We thoroughly enjoyed our guide and driver

Fantastic tour with our guide Frank and Driver Jaime. Frank was amazing with his knowledge about Santiago, its suburbs and the countryside. He made the trip very informative and engaging. Jaime is an excellent driver and it shows he drives this route often. The road get a little dicey in some spots but we never felt to be in danger.

Easter Sunday at Embalse El Yeso

Emanuel replied to our enquiry very quickly and provided lots of information about the trip. Vanessa, the tour guide, arrived at our hotel promptly and drove us high into the mountains to Embalse El Yeso. She was a very warm and informative guide and an excellent driver of a 4x4 - just what was needed for the trip. She stopped at all the places of interest for us to take photographs and even helped us climb a waterfall and find horses grazing near a stream. She also provided a really welcome vegetarian lunch (as requested) and set up the picnic table a a prime spot to enjoy the incredible views all around us. 0n the way back we stopped in San Jose for a lovely dinner at Casa Bosque.

Thanks, great tour!

We visited El Yeso hand of our guide Emanuel, who was very friendly and 100% ready to answer all our questions. Then we went to lunch at the Forest House. The food was exquisite with a family atmosphere as well as its architecture story. To relax and not have to worry about anything recommend taking

Cajón del Maipo — Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

countryside. For locals and visitors alike, it is a destination for all tastes, a place that offers both adventure and relaxation, and somewhere you can do just as much or as little as you please.

    Tour Highlights

    • Challenge yourself with one of many rewarding treks and hikes. Trails are available for all levels, but all of them offer exquisite mountain scenery. The Mirador del Morado trail and the El Morado Glacier high-altitude trek are among the most famous.
    • Get your adrenaline fix with adventure sports such as canyoning, white water rafting, ziplining, bungee jumping and more. Horse riding and fly fishing are also available for those who prefer activities of a more sedate nature.
    • Give your tired bones a soak and benefit from the rejuvenating properties of one of the natural hot springs in the area, the perfect end to your Cajón del Maipo holiday.
    • Treat your taste buds with a tour of the famous Concha y Toro vineyard — and sample some of their delicious Casillero del Diablo wine.
    • For a family trip to Cajón del Maipo, the laidback and traditional town of San José de Maipo and its surroundings offer welcoming restaurants and attractive picnic spots that are ideal for kids and parents alike.

    Travel Tips

    • The gateway to Cajón del Maipo is the town of San José de Maipo. From there, you can make your way to any of the other points of interest in the valley.
    • Traveling to Cajón del Maipo is simple, and the area is easily accessible from Santiago by public transport. Rural buses run from several metro stations within the city; alternatively, you can take a colectivo (shared taxi), which is only marginally more expensive.
    • Another option is to drive to San José de Maipo with your own vehicle, which you can do in a regular road car. However, to reach many of the attractions beyond San José de Maipo, you will need a 4x4.
    • Perhaps the easiest way to tour Cajón del Maipo is to join an organised trip. This way, the agency will provide a guide, organise transport and take care of everything else that is required, leaving you to simply make the most of your day out.
    • In the summer, all areas are easy to reach by road car or 4x4. In winter, some more inaccessible parts can only be reached by snowmobile, on skis or on foot with snowshoes — although this can make for an exciting adventure in itself.
