Famed for its stunning natural landscapes and rich culture and history, Antalya is one of the most fascinating cities while touring Turkey. It is the jumping point to the Turquoise Coast, the Southern Mediterranean region of Turkey. Therefore, your Antalya tour should include visiting its gorgeous beaches. And since the city used to be a major Roman port, it also has plenty of ancient ruins, including Hadrian's Gate, a triumphal arch built in 130 AD in honor of the emperor Hadrian.

Guest reviews from travelers on tours in and around Antalya

I have travelled on Explore trips before and they have always been good but the guide on this trip, Tim lifted this trip from good to excellent. His knowledge of and enthusiasm for the sites we visited brought them to life. He took us to local restaurants and wineries that produced delicious food and wine. The trip is an interesting mix of ancient sites, small towns and a stop by the sea. The variety of locations, from high mountains to bustling seaside towns, gives a good idea of how diverse and fascinating Türkiye is. Thank you Tim and fellow travelers for a fabulous time. The Winston Pub will always be a fond memory!

This is a great itinerary focusing on just western Turkey and visiting many ancient sites. Our guide, Tim, was incredibly friendly, enthusiastic, and oh so knowledgeable about the complex history of Turkey and ancient Anatolia – he was the prime reason we enjoyed our trip so much!

Tour leader excellent and entertaining. Freely knowledgeable, good communicator, accessible and personable. Tour well thought through; well paced, with good mix of essential, classical pieces and recreational activities. Accommodation good to even better and hosts charming and helpful throughout. Good driver and a good companionable group. A thoroughly enjoyable and stimulating holiday which will be long remembered.

This was an excellent trip. I felt safe in all the areas where we stayed. The hotels were consistently well located so it was easy to go out and explore on your own. The guide gave us plenty of time at the sites we visited and was flexible and supportive in accommodating people’s needs and preferences. The guide was very knowledgeable and was able to explain Turkish history and culture. The guide was much more than a tour manager. An added bonus was the private bus. There was no time wasted waiting for public transport and it just made travelling long distances so much easier and more comfortable.

Tim was an awesome guide who is very knowledgeable, personable, easy going, and had a great handle on the uniqueness of our group making sure everyone was taken care of. He was able to inspire and educate everyone about Turkey and was able to confidently admit that he didn't know an answer to someone's random question, but he immediately got on his phone to find out the correct answer. It was a great trip, saw a lot and this trip didn't have the long drives that the other trips had so it was a nice pace that held your interest. Really enjoyed staying at both vineyards, all the food was great because Tim explained everything so you knew how adventurous you were being and were able to stay in your comfort/safety zone. Would definitely recommend this trip and especially Tim as our guide again!!!!

The tour was full on as described but very interesting. Apart from having a lovely group, we were very lucky to have Timucin as our guide. He was full of energy and enthusiasm and went out of his way to accommodate our every wish. His knowledge of the sites was impressive.

Antalya — Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Travel Highlights

  • Explore the picturesque Kaleici neighborhood. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, lined with red-roofed mansions dating back to the Ottoman times.
  • Peek into Classical-era history at the Antalya Museum. It showcases a wide array of archaeological finds discovered in various excavation sites.
  • Discover Antalya's stunning natural wonders at the Koprulu Canyon National Park. It is home to the Koprulu River, with clear green-blue water snaking through dramatic, craggy cliffs.
  • Explore the ancient ruins of theater, temples and an aqueduct at Old Lycian Port of Phaselis. Located about 60 kilometers southwest of Antalya, this used to be the winter quarter of Alexander the Great during 334 BCE.
  • Antalya is an ideal destination for a beach holiday. The most beautiful beach is Cirali, a secluded four-kilometer stretch of sand and pebble shore near the town of Kemer.
  • Try white-water rafting, one of the most popular water sports in Antalya.
  • Treat yourself to a burnt ice cream, locally known as the yanik dondurma. Its distinct taste is created by burned milk flavor infused with vanilla.

Travel Tips

  • Avoid visiting between November and February since it is the rainy season in Antalya. If you cannot avoid visiting between these months, try to focus most of your exploration on visiting indoor attractions such as the Antalya Aquarium and Antalya Bazaar.
  • If your main reason for visiting Turkey is to relax at the beach in Antalya, stay in the neighborhood of Lara. This area is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and many luxury resorts.
  • Get the Antalya kart transit card when taking public transportation. The card offers discounted and reasonable transport fees on buses and trams.
  • Stay in the Old Town area if you don't mind walking. There are many attractions within walking distance from here. Most Antalya tours will also depart from this area.
