Jordan is safe, despite the unrest in the Middle East, I never felt unsafe. Totally recommend the Jordan Discovery Tour. The itinerary is excellent, full on initially but so worthwhile. Felt totally immersed in the ancient civilisation, a country filled with incredible history, visiting and spending 2 full days in Petra was breath-taking which gave a good overview of the city and allowed me to do some of the more challenging trials. The itinerary was so varied, visiting some of the biblical sites, spending a night in the desert under the stars, enjoying Bedouin hospitality and cuisine, snorkelling in the Red Sea and floating in the Dead Sea. We were blessed with good weather, cuisine which tingled our taste buds and senses, refreshing lemon and mint drinks and freshly squeezed fruit juices, sweet black sage tea and best of all the welcoming freshly prepared cardamom flavoured Arabic coffee. We had an excellent local guide that told us many stories about the Bedouin tribes and culture and made history come alive when we visited the ancient sites. The minibus was comfortable and clean and we had an excellent driver who safely drove us around. Free water was provided on all journeys and we were treated to delicious dates too. Our group of 12 were amazing, all keen to learn more about the history and culture and very willing to join in the activities. Everyone we met along the way were helpful and polite. Truly a memorable experience and I would certainly recommend the trip to my family and friends.

We enjoyed our first trip with Explore on the Jordon Discovery tour . It covered everything thing that we wanted to experience in Jordan and the 2 days in Petra were essential as there is a lot to see and do. The tour leader Saleh was knowledgeable, caring and very entertaining. He gave us an insight into Jordanian / Bedouin culture. He and the driver paced the route / schedule very well. Jordon is a safe and friendly country and the people were welcoming. The food was very good

Jordan Discovery is an excellent trip. You get to experience everything Jordan has to offer in a very well organised way. Saleh was an excellent guide and very informative - I learnt a lot. Despite the current situation in the middle east Jordan is a very safe country to visit. I never felt at any point unsafe and the bonus is at the minute there are fewer tourists about so it is the ideal time to visit places like Petra without the crowds. Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved it. Temperature mid/late October was ideal, warm but not too hot. Such a variety of experiences. Full on but balanced by multiple nights in two of the places so not continuously unpacking and repacking. Many wonderful memories. The itinerary is well planned and I thought 'that was a great day' at the end of each day. 2 days to explore Petra was as great as hoped, one day would have felt rushed. Fitness useful to cover the site quite thoroughly (High Place of Sacrifice and Monastery) but everyone enjoyed it even if doing less. Really enjoyed the bonus of relaxing in Aqaba on the hotel rooftop and snorkelling boat and at the Dead Sea near the end. The optional extra trips are worth it. Food delicious, worked fine being vegetarian. The tour leader (Saleh) was a wonderful host. I was inspired by the Bedouin culture of generous hospitality we experienced with him and everywhere along the way. We had a really good group. I felt safe all the time, from both current events and also in general, including wandering some about as a female alone - the people are so friendly and we did not experience pressure to buy. We understood many places were emptier than usual, including Petra and the camp (we got upgraded as we were the only guests) - good for us but they do need the tourists! I have been on quite a lot of Explore trips and this was one of the less challenging in terms of climate, food, transport, general assault on the senses - a good shorter trip or introduction trip to going further afield. I came home feeling refreshed! I recommend reading 'Married to a Bedouin' after visiting Petra. Recommendations of what to bring mid/late October: hiking shoes, beach shoes (Dead Sea), walking sandals. Glad of closed toe shoes with good grip in several places. Long sleeve shirt to go over t-shirt for cooler mornings /evenings. Lived in 3/4 length light trousers in the day and full lengths in the evening. Scarf and sunglasses absolutely necessary to protect against sand blowing about. Fleece + long shirt + t-shirt was enough for desert camp warmth although I don't feel the cold too much. Personally would not have felt comfortable in sleeveless top or shorts (except for swimming where I was glad of shorts to go over costume). Pack light as you have the chance to wash things out and they will dry overnight. Definitely bring lipbalm and skin moisturizer as the air dries you out. No need to bring a towel (hire one cheaply at Dead Sea / snorkel boat gives you one) and did not need mosquito repellent. Sleeping bag liner nice to have at desert camp. Torch needed at camp. Used earplugs for the morning call to prayer in Amman. British plugs worked everywhere. Cash economy, but you have the chance to withdraw/exchange. I would thoroughly recommend this trip, go for it!

I travelled to Jordan at time when there is a lot of unrest in the Middle East however I can say that at no time during the trip did I feel unsafe. The itinerary was excellent, allowing for 2 whole days in Petra, which is really needed in order to get a good overview of the city and some of the more challenging to reach sites. As a result of the political situation there were very few tourists in any of the places we visited which, whilst sad for those working in tourism locally, actually made the experiences even more special as a visitor. As well as Petra we were able to spend a night under the stars in the desert at Wadi Rum, go snorkelling in the Red Sea and float in the Dead Sea. The weather was fantastic, food was great and I had a lovely group to travel with.

We had a brilliant time on the Explore Jordan Discovery trip, we saw and did just so much. It's quite full on, with lots of walking and sometimes clambering (9 miles one day in Petra), which is what we like, but important to know beforehand. The minibus was very comfortable, with a great driver, free water and even Wi-Fi! We had plenty of breaks so none of the journeys seemed too long. The Bedouin camp was much more comfortable than expected. I'd recommend this trip 100%.
