I completed the Back roads of Provence April 14th, 2025. Working with the team was great. I added extra days on to my trip and they were able to help me with hotel and bike rental. The hotels that I stayed with were clean, friendly and centrally located to city central which made exploring easy. Negative was the bike did not come with mirrors. The route does utilize some very busy roads. I am a 63 yr female traveling alone. Not once did I feel unsafe. I will be booking another trip with them for next year.
We thoroughly enjoyed our bike riding trip! We opted for e-bikes which was great for us given that we weren't both regular bike riders. The itinerary of each day was very flexible, giving you the chance to have a late or early start with still plenty of time in the day to enjoy the village for your overnight stay. We often opted for an early start, arriving around lunchtime at our destination. We particularly loved the two-night stay (with a rest day) at Saint Remy de Provence. It gave us more time for some sight seeing and enjoying the bigger village. The GPS navigation was also super easy to follow and as English-speakers, we didn't find any issues making our way around. We would highly recommend this experience to others looking to 'get off the beaten track' and explore some hidden gems in the Provence region.
Alsace Vineyard trails has it all. Fairytale villages, vineyards, castles and beautiful mountain trails. The ascent and descent were just steep enough to feel like a healthy work out but not too steep to trigger my knee ITB issues!
It was a lovely walk through forests, villages and vineyards at harvest time (third week of September). Mild weather too. The track notes were great, with GPS backup for the one or two occasions when we’d wandered off the track in a minor way. The accommodation was fine, though if you are an early riser, and quick walkers, as apparently we are, there were 2 hotels when checkin was absolutely verboten till 3.00pm at the first one, and the hotel was even locked till 4.00pm in the other. Strong German influence with the food and language, which was interesting after walks in other parts of France. We were a bit anxious about the last walking day, described as ‘probably the ‘most difficult day’. (And appreciated the warning.) Yes, it was over 22 km, and involved a lot of ‘up’, but it was a ‘zig-zag’ up, which was quite user-friendly. And at the top is the old castle/monastery where you can have a recuperative repast before heading down. Having done many self-guided walks over the years, this one would have to be at or near the top of the tree. If you are even in your 7th decade (as are we) and have a history of keeping relatively fit and walking a few hours a week in hilly landscapes, you should enjoy this delightful walk.
Backroads of Provence was a wonderful experience. The scenery was beautiful and the villages we passed through were interesting. The information we were provided with was extremely useful. The Guido app was great to use while riding and gave some great suggestions of places to look at while on the ride and where to obtain food. The hotels were comfortable and checking in early was no problem. Overall a fantastic experience.
We had a wonderful time on Provence backroads visiting towns and stopping for espresso and something special at a boulangerie. The route was easy and having e-bikes made it fun.
