"As an avid trekker, I have been to Peru many times and trekked in many places with many different companies but I feel that my experience with James Mackender from Unu Raymi has been the absolute and ultimate best. As I have said previously no one would help me trek in Cotahuasi Canyon but James took me on and through his thorough planning I was able to have the most wonderful and memorable experience.

Nothing was ever too much trouble for James and he was always happy to answer my many questions, discuss different travel options and sort multiple bookings for accommodation, buses, trains and planes. James is the ultimate travel professional and I am grateful for the way he coordinated all of my bookings and made sure that I was checked in for all of my flights and train travel. This is very reassuring when you are travelling solo.

I was also grateful that James made himself available on WhatsApp to deal with any problems or concerns. At the end of my time in Peru I had some international flight problems and James was only too happy to try and sort out the complications for me. I would highly recommend Unu Raymi and James’s care and organisational skills to any prospective travellers to Peru. You would be in exceptional hands."

"Amazing trip! Have not done much traveling outside the U.S., so was a bit nervous. Our travel specialist was James Mackender, and he made us feel very at easy with traveling abroad in Peru. Everything was perfectly planned--flights, pick-ups and drop-offs. Our guide for the Treehouse Lodge/Iquitos was Guido. Very knowledgeable, spoke excellent english, friendly, very personable. The Treehouse Lodge was beautiful, and the day and night excursions were once in a lifetime. Our next part of our Journey in Peru was seamless--the guide from the Treehouse took us directly to the river boat. The 7 man crew on the Spondias was amazing. They were so attentive, knowledgable about the amazon and Peru. My favorite part of this portion of the trip was when we spent time with a local family at the river village. They invited us into their home, we shared some food, and discussed the commonalty and differences of our daily lives. Our guide on the Spondias was Charlie, and he likes birds and was very knowledgeable about the different species of birds. Our chef, Francisco, was wonderful and his creations were excellent. Our waiter/purser was Jairo, he was a friendly young man, full of knowledge and we practiced english and spanish together. The only flaw was that we missed our connecting flight in Lima to Cusco. After an hour of being sent to 5 different desks to get our flight rescheduled, one phone call to James and in 10 minutes the whole situation was remedied. It relieved so much stress to know that James was looking after us. The last stretch of our trip was to Cusco and Machu picchu, and Zac was our guide. Zac was, hands down, the best guide I have ever had. He was so knowledgeable about Peru, Cusco, Incan history, Machu Picchu. The way he introduced us to Machu Picchu was perfect, and he even took video of our initial reaction to seeing this Wonder of the World. He was so kind, so enthusiastic, I definitely would do another trip with him as our guide.

This trip was just perfect. James did an amazing job listening to what we wanted to do, and making all of those wishes come true. Will definitely be using James again when we travel!!"

"Wow! The trip was really amazing. I can absolutely recommend it, if you like to stay outside! Trust me.

I did a private tour with a 4-person team (guide, nurse, horseman and a cook). They took really care about me. The guide were very flexible, so we could spontaneous add the rainbow mountain to our tour (we arrived before the tourists so we could create perfect pictures).

The guide (Edu) was an excellent storyteller. I took the time to explain me a lot about the Inkas (incl draws in the sand for better understanding). The nurse (Rexona) was a very kindly and lovely person! She was really caring about me. The trekking it self was most of time with the guide and the nurse only. At the camps and while the eating, the cook and horseman were with us (and did an awesome job). The cook (Theo) was an amazing chef. Every meal was created on gas and consisted three courses. All of the meals were "muy muy muy rico" (yes, really delicious)! We ate soup, dessert, lasagne, pasta, banana cake, pancakes, fish and much more (yes all was created on the fire! Crazy, isn'it?). Sure, also the horseman (Wilfredo) was a absolut nice person.

You see, the team was really great.

And also the landscape. We were while the rainy season (in february). We had every kind of weather (sun, rain, hail, snow) multiple times per day. No problem if you have a good equipment. And the nature looks very breathtaking. The green is so nice and everywhere nice rivers. If I would go again, I would also pick the rainy season. Because i think the nature is much more impressive.

Most of the time, there was nobody else (not even locals). Only the nature.

Before the tour i stayed in contact with the tour operator (James). He was very courteous. We changed the phone numbers and i could ask him every question i have while packing at any time and did a quick response via whatsapp.

Tips: Take a water filter system with you. There are a lot of rivers with water from the glacier.

At last: The tour was quit long, strenuous and the evening/nights were cold. I liked it. It's just important that you be aware of this. There were two hotspring on the way (first and last day). According to the plan, we would only spent ca. 1 hour there on the last day. So if you can, maybe you should do the trekking in 6 days, instead of 5. Then you have more time, to enjoy everything. But the most hard thing for me was the cold weather in the evening and night. So i was lucky with 5 days ;).

So thanks to Unu Raymi Expeditions and his wonderful employes.
