for Thorsmork (Þórsmörk) Hike
"We had an absolutely fantastic day with our guides (see the big Viking guy on the picture). The hike brought us past some of the most stunning scenery weve ever seen, including hidden waterfalls and caves. They were also very knowledgeable about any of the many questions we threw at them! Highly recommend"

for 4-Day Northern Lights Adventure
"In March 2019 we did this marvelous trip. For early spring the weather was nice and the landscape beautiful: surrealistic geothermal pools on Reykjanes and snowcapped mountains above the glaciers. Right in time the driver picked us (family of 2 parents and 3 young-adults from the Netherlands) up at the airport. On the way to Hvolsvllur we visited the geothermal pools of Krsuvik. A warm welcome at Base Camp Midgard. We absolutely prefer a small family-owned and local-based company instead of a big travel agency/company. Another advantage is the location: much closer to the highlights in the south than a hotel in Reykjavik. Breakfast and dinner (and the drinks at the bar) were fine. A cozy atmosphere with a lot of adventurous people (young or somewhat older). The trip to Prsmrk with the Ford SuperJeep was great. Due to the driving skills of Christian we crossed various rivers to get as far as possible into the Valley of the Thunder God Thor. We explored by foot the surroundings of the Eyjafjallajkull volcano. On the way back to Midgard BaseCamp we visited the Seljlans Falls. The third day we headed to the Slheimajkull Glacier. A long time ago I climbed various mountains in the Alps, the Andes and the Himalaya but walking on crampons on the glacier and -safely- descending in a crevasse is impressive too. Really worrying is the decline of the glacier in the last decades. A dramatic effect of the global warning. Please show the picture of the sign to D. Trump. The last day on our way to Reykjavik- we visited the impressive Gullfoss waterfall (thanks to Sigridur Tmasdttir who saved the area), Geysir and the xarfoss waterfall.Summarizing a great trip in just 4 days."

"My son and I did the Northern Lights Tour. This was a rare chance to spend some time together (hes a busy father and Im a retired 71 year old). We wanted something a little different that we could both enjoy and Midgard offered a tour that seemed to suit, couple with more than a hint of adventure. We were not disappointed. Midgard is a family run business and clearly values the personal touch. Our four days were varied, interesting and fun. The sightseeing was ably organised by our driver and guide, Bjarni, who kept us both informed and entertained (he is a classically trained singer, as well!). His border collie, Krea, added to the enjoyment. The highlights for me were the glacier climb and ice field walk and seeing the northern lights (this was facilitated by one of the owners getting out of bed and driving us to the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night to maximise the view). Basecamp is funky, functional and the food is excellent. I cant recommend them more."

"Midgard managed to give us all a fantastic 4 day Adventure! No small feat, as our company consisted of my Game-of-Thrones-fan Dad at 70, my white-water rafting guide brother and myself who prefer to run only on man-made paths. We were greeted at Keflavik by Bjrg, saw the Reykjanes peninsula and enjoyed a nice hike incl bathing in a hot spring. Thorir was our guide at the glacier the next day, making me feel safe as a first-time ice climber and at the same time impressing the guys who have done this kind of climbing several times before. Third day with Ingvard to Thorsmork with the big Jeep, crossing rivers, hiking and not catching a wight like John Snow when we too went to Stakkholtsgja Canyon. Last day we again enjoyed the company of Thorir doing the Golden Circle before being dropped off in Reykjavik. Midgard base camp is really nice with good food, comfy beds and great ambiance.

We all give our best recommendation to Midgard!"

About Us

We are a family-run company located in a small town called Hvolsvöllur in South Iceland. We see Midgard as a "glocal" company, meaning we are very local in the sense that are focus is mainly on the South of Iceland but at the same time we are global, meaning we do tours all around Iceland and interact with people all over the world. Our goal is to provide personal services in a friendly atmosphere where people can experience the best that Iceland has to offer. Apart from our passion for adventures we also like to feed and accommodate people at our basecamp in Hvolsvöllur which we see as an extension of our homes, only with better coffee.
