About Active Adventures

Active Adventures is New Zealand’s most globally diverse adventure travel company. In typical New Zealand fashion, we applied our pioneering spirit back in the 90’s and began offering incredible, fully guided, outdoor adventures in New Zealand to just a small number of guests. Fast forward 25 years and New Zealand is still absolutely at the heart of everything we do, but we now also offer our unique style of Kiwi adventuring across the globe to thousands of guests every year. We grew to meet our guests’ desire for diverse adventures, and many travel with us over and over again.

This was a wonderful trip. From the moment we landed on San Cristobal, the adventure began. After a wonderful meal and introduction to the week ahead, we were off biking and then snorkeling with sea lions and sea turtles. The pace is consistent, but not overwhelming, with a reasonable amount of time to rest. Every meal was amazing, and the entire team was fun and also competent. Can't say enough good about our guides Pepo and Paolo. Everyone we interacted with was great. Of course the stars of the show are the islands and their wildlife, and they didn't disappoint. Can't wait for our next trip!

Traveling in Covid times is definitely difficult. But, this trip made all the problems, covid tests, hoops to jump trough worth it. We could not have asked for better guides in Pepo and Paolo. Their passion, knowledge, love of the islands and understanding of our wishes was absolutely stunning. Every day, from early in the morning till late in the evening - our days were filled with activities and adventures, sights to be explored, lessons to be learned and amazing food and drinks to be enjoyed. Experiencing all of this beauty with friends (old and new) made it all the more special. Thank you, Pepo and the tour operator for being awesome!

After the cancellation of our EBC trip twice due to the pandemic, my partner and I decided to try the South American Jaguar trip to Peru. What an incredible experience! After 4 days of a challenging hike through the mountains, reaching the Sun Gate to look down on Machu Picchu was thrilling and gratifying. Then a trip to the Amazon Jungle! Our guides were attentive and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this trip!

Wow. Wow. Wow!! Bucket list destination for sure. We expected to see wildlife. Boy did we see more than we thought!! Rookeries of blue-footed boobies with their young. Snorkelled over at least 8 hammerheads. Nursing sea lions on every island. GalA¡pagos penguins. Swimming iguanas around us on one snorkel. SO many turtles. Our guides Pepo and Paolo took AMAZING care of us and every detail. We so enjoyed sharing our adventures together and getting to know them. Both are a wealth of knowledge and a HUGE asset to Galakiwi. We can't wait to return!! Highly recommend this land-based and active tour versus any liveaboard. We felt so welcome on every island and truly enjoyed meeting, talking with and supporting locals. Can't recommend this trip highly enough. You will truly come back with the best memories of adventure and nature ever. Thank you, tour operator!!

The Takahe trip is full of wonder, excitement and lasting memories. It boasts spectacular scenery every day, quality accommodation, comfortable travel and carefully balanced activities allowing energy levels to be manageable over five days. The guides are personable, knowledgeable, and great managers of the group dynamics with a mix of abilities and personalities. Full on days hiking with creative planning leads to happy and contented participants who come home to reminisce about the journey and its success. Thank you tour operator.

This trip was brilliant. Admittedly the fantastic weather we encountered made it even more beautiful, but weather can't replace great people. The whole group was great and entertaining, but the guides Ellie and Elder made it very special. Nothing was too much trouble, their cooking was outstanding and general hospitality skills marvellous. They are a credit to the company and themselves.

The Chilean Condor trip for the Torres del Paine W-trek and Puerto Varas region was amazing. The views were great, the individual activities were exciting, and the guides were the best.

So tempted to try to knock off a few great walks as the years slip by? Join this perfect honey of great walk tasters. Within lies the relaxing level nature walks in forest crowded with amazing lush undergrowth, or light- filtered lighter growth; then onto more challenging stuff such as Routeburn's Key Summit or Ben Lomond saddle. All this and always guided by our lovely young whizz-kid guides. And don't forget incredible meals appearing regularly.
