When to go to Moldova

For those planning a summer retreat, the best time to visit Moldova is between May and July. Temperatures during this time of year hover around 29℃ and the weather is fresh and warm. September is a good time too, although before and after this month Moldova sees a lot of wet days that are better avoided. The winter months from December to February are harsh and bitterly cold. However, if you enjoy the snow and love the festive mood of Christmas markets, this is a great time to visit the country.

How long to stay in Moldova

Since Moldova is a small destination, five days are enough to take in the country’s major sights, including the wineries of Bălți and the breakaway territory of Trans-Dniester. If you do want to explore more of the country and spend a few days wandering about in quaint villages, then ten days in Moldova should be more than enough. In two weeks, you can even pair this country with another eastern European destination, like neighboring Romania.

Must-visit destinations in Moldova

Moldova is a throwback to times past when life looked and felt different. Chisinau, the capital city, has loads of historic buildings worth exploring. See Nativity Cathedral while in the city and spend some time in Ștefan cel Mare Central Park. Then head for the beautiful Mănăstirea Curchi, a monastery that was constructed in the 18th century. One-stop you should not skip is Orheiul Vechi, an archeological complex that is home to fortifications, baths, caves, ruins, and monasteries, all dating back by 2,000 years. Need a break in nature? Head for Padurea Domneasca Natural Reservation, home to the oldest tree in the country.
