I had done one trip previously – Amalfi coast hiking, fall 2023 – with EXPLORE. I was so impressed I asked my excellent guide, Pete, what else he would recommend knowing my abilities and interests. He immediately recommended the Slovenia trip, and it actually was on my list of places to visit. He had apparently set the trip up about seven years ago and was very familiar with it.
I have been in 50 countries to date - some several times- and Slovenia is now in my top five and I am already planning my return for next May.
We had a lovely small group, being the first of these hikes of the season, hailing from Canada, Spain, Australia, and the UK.
The accommodation, staff, management, and food at Art Hotel Kristal were A+ – and I especially loved and took advantage of the options of the sauna and cold plunge, Ayurvedic massages with the wonderful Bhatri, chocolate tasting with the owner, Alenka, and a fantastic wine tasting with her son, Jan. I went home with a lovely assortment of chocolates and also a wonderful bottle of wine that I will try to hold onto for a few years until it is optimal to drink.
The hikes were not difficult at all, but I found that I did feel like I got a good amount of exercise by the end of the day. I spent my free day doing a mountain bike ride. The whole area around Lake Bohinj is stunning and there are so many activities that one can partake in, as well as really yummy local restaurants close by the hotel. I loved that the hotel offered a pre-fixe three course menu for hotel guests for only €25 on the nights that were not included with the hike. An incredible bargain given the quality of the food, as with almost all of the food we had in Slovenia, it was locally sourced and delicious. I am not typically a meat eater, but I had the venison twice – locally sourced, and wild – and it was by far the best I have ever had.
I would definitely stay at this hotel when I return to the area. I would strongly encourage others to spend some time in Ljubljana – either before or after the trip. A beautiful city a two hour bus ride awaythat is just the right size and full of so much to offer. Next time I am going to see a lot more of this country – it is half the size of Switzerland, but the variety of the terrain and ecosystems is quite impressive. Also, to be noted is that English is widely spoken and children start in grade 3, learning this second language. The Slovenians couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful everywhere I went. What can I say?? Get yourself to Slovenia before it is overrun: safe, clean, and green – a beautiful country of farmers, foragers, wine makers, and beekeepers. Also note that they have some fantastic fly fishing there as well as mountain and road biking – very cycling friendly. After all, it is the country of Pogacar.

I loved the experience with the tour that Destination Services created according to my needs and the time I had available. The organization was impeccable, the guides were wonderful and I loved especially in the case of Ronda that despite having people who spoke Spanish, English, and French, the guide was fluent in all these languages. Visiting these white towns full of history and incredible landscapes was the best decision I could have made.

Our visit of Ronda was extraordinary. From the moment we stepped out our cruise ship, Thomas was there to welcome us to Malaga. Before leaving for Ronda, he took us on a short walk through downtown Malaga and we felt the pride he has for his own town. The drive to Ronda is an 1hour 1/2 and Thomas took the times to point out all the local highlights along the way. Once in Ronda, Thomas made sure that we were aware of the history and the beauty of the area. He also made sure we had a good lunch with a spectacular view overlooking the gorge. Overall our excursion to Ronda was delightful not only because of the beautiful scenery and the interesting history but largely because of Thomass considerate guidance throughout. We would highly recommend to do an excursion with Thomas Liedtke. Among all the guide we had, he is the best by far.
Enjoy a stroll through Toledo, bathed by the Tagus River, for a true journey through time. Accompanied by our on-site guide, we’ll take a bus to the Mirador del Valle to admire the city from a unique vantage point. We’ll visit an authentic damascene workshop and then explore its cobblestone streets on foot, uncovering the fascinating blend of cultures that make it an open-air museum. Our Toledo tour begins at the iconic Zocodover Square, the city’s heart since Moorish times. The square’s name, meaning “livestock market” in Arabic, has witnessed centuries of Toledan history. Admire its triangular layout and arcaded buildings, reminiscent of its commercial and social past.Leaving Zocodover behind, we’ll briefly pause at the Pozo de El Salvador, a remnant of the ancient mosque beneath the current church. Continuing through medieval alleys, we’ll reach the Pasadizo de Balaguer, a picturesque passageway that transports us to Toledo’s bygone eras. Next, we’ll marvel at the Casa Consistorial (City Hall), its imposing façade blending Herrerian and Baroque elements. We’ll proceed to Plaza del Ayuntamiento, also known as Plaza de la Catedral, where the city’s three great powers converge: political (City Hall), religious (Archbishop’s Palace), and judicial (Courthouse). The tour culminates at the majestic Gothic Cathedral of Toledo. From the exterior, we’ll admire its Gothic façade and towering spire dominating the city’s skyline. This cathedral, a masterpiece of Spanish Gothic architecture, stands as a testament to Toledo’s historical and religious significance. This walk immerses us in Toledo’s rich history-from its Moorish roots to its imperial splendor-offering a panoramic view of its unparalleled architectural and cultural heritage. After the guided portion, enjoy free time to explore further, such as the Jewish Quarter, where you can experience Sephardic history in its synagogues and museums. You also will be able to jump in the longest urban Zip-line in Europe. (ticket included)Return to the meeting point (on your own) at least 15 minutes before departure for the journey back to Madrid.
Set off from the Spanish capital, Madrid, to take in the best of Southern Spain on this 9-day coach tour. Explore the cultural gems of Merida and Cordoba and visit the famous cathedral in Seville. Taste Andalusian olive oil, admire the view from Ronda, and spend a night in the Costa del Sol, with free time to stroll along the beach. Visit the incredible Alhambra complex in Grenada, see a Flamenco master class and show, and much more.

Inland you discover typically Spanish villages and the Mediterranean coast is a delight to explore with wild beaches and ecologically important and diverse Nature Parks. This 7 night holiday takes in all that the region has to offer, starting with 2 nights in the wonderful city of Valencia, explore the Albufera wetlands to the south of the city where rice was first grown in Europe and the famous 'paella' dish so typical of Spain was created. Make sure you take plenty of time to explore the city of Valencia itself; the modern City of Arts and Sciences is a must and its contemporary buildings were built on the former riverbed of the River Turia. The historic old town area of the city holds the cathedral with a beautiful mixture of Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic styles, for a perfect view of the city, climb the 207 steps to the top of the Miguelete tower and enjoy the 360 degree view of the city. The gothic building of 'La Longa', the Silk Exchange is well worth a visit and has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1996.After a short transfer inland you explore the off the beaten track inland valleys with pretty Spanish villages, some with their buildings dating back to the 13th and 14th century. Take a dip in the thermal spas of Montanejos where the crystal clear mineral waters are renowned for their rejuvenating qualities before following the river back towards the coast. The gentle coastal cycling takes you past secluded beaches and through the Sierra de Irta Marine Park where you can enjoy the natural environment at its best, before reaching your final destination in Peniscola, a charming town with a Templar castle and medieval walls surrounded by the sea with plenty of cobbled streets to explore.

We had a great time on our Barcelona City Tour. There were only 4 guests, which was a perfect size for a tour. Joao was our guide and he was very knowledgeable and had a great personality. We were picked up at our hotel in the Gothic quarter and walked a short distance to where the van was parked. We loved seeing all the different sites. We ended at La Sagrada Familia. We had requested tickets inside with tower access. These tickets were secured ahead of time so we were able to skip the line. This was the highlight of the tour.

I had a really great experience. I wasn’t sure what to expect since this was my first group and first time in Europe and I was very pleasantly surprised. I met some great people from all around the world who encouraged me to try things I never would’ve done if I was alone. The CEOs reduced the stress of travelling and were fun to talk to. I would definitely do another G adventures tour because it was so fun!

We had our wonderful tour guide Miguel pick us (5 friends and myself) up at our AirBnB with no problem. There was a small mix up with the pick up time but the tour company was very quick to respond to me the night before (pretty late at night) with the correct times.
The trip is LONG tiring and TOTALLY WORTH IT! Granada and La Alhambra are the finest examples of Moorish art work anywhere in Spain!
We stopped at a lovely road side restaurant for a quick breakfast complete with cute, friendly cats to pet! Then we drove through the countryside and saw a million olive trees. Miguel answered all of our questions and was very informative along the way.
Once we arrived in Granada we got a private tour of the city and hiked up to the best view points to see La Alhambra. Afterwards we stopped in a local favorite place for traditional tapas. Miguel ordered for us so we could enjoy the finest food! It was a treat and delicious!
We were then dropped off at La Alhambra for our skip the line guided tour. So breathtaking and wonderful . words cannot describe the experience.
Miguel met us afterwards to drive us back to Seville we slept most of the way.
I recommend this company completely for a great trip and a great experience!
