Itinerary
Discover the rich history and vibrant culture of Uzbekistan on this captivating journey. Begin in Khiva, a beautifully preserved city with stunning madrasas, mosques, and ancient walls. Continue to Bukhara, where centuries-old bazaars, historic fortresses, and majestic architecture tell the stories of the Silk Road. Explore Samarkand, home to the world-famous Registan Square, intricate mosaics, and grand mausoleums showcasing the region’s artistic heritage. Complete your adventure with a scenic ascent to take in Uzbekistan’s breathtaking landscapes, blending history, culture, and natural beauty in one unforgettable experience.
day 1 - Arriving into Central Asia’s Most Popular Country
Start your tour in the capital, Tashkent. Your tour officially begins at 5:00 pm with your tour guide and driver waiting in the lobby.
Take a short drive to a pilaf center, where you see how traditional food is prepared and enjoy dinner. The combination of delicious cuisine, rich culture, and good company creates an unforgettable experience.
day 2 - Explore Tashkent’s charm before flying to Khiva
Rebuilt as a model Soviet city after the 1966 earthquake, Tashkent is characteristically different from historic gems like Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand. Still, the city retains much of its charm with bustling bazaars, beautiful mosques, and the country’s best restaurants. In the evening, take a flight from Tashkent to Khiva.
day 3 - Explore the historic streets of Khiva
The old town of Khiva preserves more than 50 historic monuments and 250 old houses. Having an English-speaking professional tour guide lead you through the beautiful streets makes all the difference. The most spectacular area of Khiva is “Ichan Kala,” the walled inner town protected as a World Heritage Site since 1990. The clustered mosques, madrassahs, and tiled minarets within an area of less than 3 kilometers (almost 2 miles) give a sense of how bustling this town historically was. Expect to see striking examples of Islamic architecture built over 600 years.
day 4 - Cruising Along the Silk Road & Getting a Massage
Travel from Khiva to one of Central Asia’s most spiritual destinations, Bukhara. Located on the Silk Road, this city has long served as a center of trade, scholarship, culture, and religion. UNESCO has listed the historic center as a World Heritage Site. Spend as much time as possible sightseeing before ending the day at a traditional Turkish bathhouse, or hammam. Begin in a room heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air to perspire freely, move to an even hotter room, then wash in cold water. After a full body wash and massage, relax in the cooling room. Transportation from Khiva to Bukhara is via train or private vehicle depending on group size. Flights are available on selective dates; if preferred, the guide can provide availability and pricing.
day 5 - Discover Bukhara’s history and culture
Home to around 140 architectural monuments, Bukhara’s historical attractions are revealed by your private driver and tour guide. People have inhabited the region for at least five millennia, and the city itself has existed for half that time. Feel the rich heritage as you walk Bukhara’s streets and explore its remarkable sites. The evening concludes at a venue where you watch folkloric dancing and listen to a traditional band.
day 6 - Journey from Bukhara to historic Samarkand
After exploring Bukhara, travel to Samarkand, a must-see destination in Central Asia. One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the region, Samarkand prospered from its location on the Silk Road between China and the Mediterranean. In 2001, UNESCO added Samarkand to its World Heritage List.
day 7 - Discover Samarkand’s crafts and wine traditions
Along with sightseeing, see how Samarkand has carefully preserved the traditions of ancient crafts, including gold embroidery, silk weaving, copper engraving, and wood painting. Another highlight today is a visit to the Khovrenko Winery, founded in the early 19th century by a Russian pioneer winemaker. Taste some of the best Uzbek wines and sample different types of local cognac.
day 8 - Tour concludes with airport transfer
The tour ends today. Transportation is arranged to take you to the airport in Samarkand at no additional charge, or to Tashkent for an extra fee, depending on your preference.
