day 1 - Ulaanbaatar Arrival (d)

On your arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, you will be transferred to the hotel in Ulaanbaatar.

Free time at leisure for the rest of the day. You may need some time to relax and recover from the long-distance flight or possibly from jet lag.

In the afternoon, after a tour briefing, our tour guide will take you out for a Welcome Dinner that celebrates the unique flavors of the region. Held at a charming local restaurant, this evening promises an unforgettable experience as we indulge in a menu featuring authentic regional dishes.

day 2 - Ulaanbaatar - Murun: Khovsgol Lake National Park (b, L, D)

Today, you will be transferred to the city airport for a morning flight to Murun, the center of Northern Province. Upon arrival at the local airport, we will drive to Khuvsgul Lake, known as “The Dark Blue Pearl”. Lake Khovsgol is Mongolia’s largest and second-most voluminous freshwater lake in Asia and 1% of all the fresh water in the world.

On the way, we will visit Khatgal village and explore the village’s life, market and main port of the lake.

After lunch and check-in at the Ger camp, we will explore the Khovsgol Lake National Park. Relaxing free time offers us the opportunity to explore the surroundings, hike in the surrounding hills, swim in the lake, and enjoy the natural beauty of the region. The Lake water is crystal clear blue so that you can see the bottom of the lake when you are sailing and this lake is surrounded by deep forest and magnificent mountains.

day 3 - Khovsgol Lake Discovery Tour (b, L, D)

Khovsgol province is home to the southernmost indigenous reindeer herding people (Tsaatan) in the world. This day tour is not complete without a visiting to the reindeer herders family. In the morning, we will saddle our horses and ride to meet a reindeer herder family. Depending on your experience, an appropriate horse will be selected for you.

We will meet reindeer herders and explore their lifestyle, customs, and sacraments. Reindeer herders practice shamanism and live in teepees. They are the last reindeer herders who survived for thousands of years inhabiting the remotest subarctic taiga, moving between 5 and 10 times a year.

In the afternoon, it is free time for you to be on your own. There is a great opportunity to hiking, kayaking or just enjoy at wild nature to take photos. Also, you can ride a motorboat around the lake.

day 4 - Murun - Ulaanbaatar: Hustai National Park (b, L, D)

This morning, you will be transferred to the local airport for a return flight to Ulaanbaatar.

Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, we drive west to Hustai National Park. This area is home to the Mongolian wild horse known as Przewalski horse (takhi) with a unique landscape that features mountains and steppe.

After lunch, we explore the national park and hiking to see the wild horses in their natural habitat. Seeing these truly wild horses which numbered in the hundreds of thousands of years ago, will make you feel like you have traveled thousands of years back in time. There is a great opportunity to take photos of these endangered horses. If you are lucky, you can see foxes, deer, roe deer, eagles, and more animals and birds.

In the evening, check-in at HS Khaan Resort Hotel and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.

day 5 - Karakorum: Erdenezuu Monastery (b, L, D)

After breakfast, we will drive to Karakorum and Erdenezuu Monastery. Karakorum was not only the capital of the vast Mongolian Empire, but the center of trade along the Silk Road. However, the Karakorum of today is a small settlement with little focus on tourism. Today there is a museum that does show off some of the artefacts they've recovered so far.

Upon arrival in the village, we will visit the Museum of Karakorum and learn about the beautiful ancient Karakorum. Then we will visit to the magnificent and the oldest Buddhist Monastery complex of Erdenezuu, built in the 16th century, with 108 stupas. Here you can see interesting listening to monks chanting Buddhist sutras. Return to ger camp and have dinner.

day 6 - Karakorum - Ulaanbaatar (b, L, D)

After breakfast, we return to Ulaanbaatar. On the we visit to Bayan Gobi's magnificent sand dunes - surrounded by hills with willow trees, streams, and bushes, and appear as a small desert in the center of the country. This dune is 80km long and the widest part of the dune is 9-10 km. Also, the sand dune is called a mini Gobi.

We will discover this magnificent place on camel back. Mongolia is home to 2/3 of the two-humped Bactrian camels in the world. It is a gentle, calm and extraordinarily patient animal and can carry on without water for a month. Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, transfer to hotel.

day 7 - Ulaanbaatar - Gobi Desert – Yol Valley (vulture’s Valley) (b, L, D)

In the morning, you will be transferred to the city airport for morning flight to Dalanzadgad, which is a town in Gobi.

Today we will visit Yol Valley (Eagle or Vulture’s valley) which is situated in “Three beauties of Gobi” Mt. National Park. Yol Valley was originally established to conserve birdlife in the region but it’s now more famous for its dramatic scenery in the middle of the Gobi Desert with a meters thick ice almost all year around, except late summer.

We will explore the valley and go hike through grassy meadows, small streams, long and narrow valley sheltered by high cliff walls, sunlight bouncing off amazing rocks, covered with wildflowers and Gobi plants. You may be lucky enough to spot wild sheep and goats, grazing high on the cliff walls.

Total distance: 50km, driving for ~1hrs.

day 8 - Bayanzag (flaming Cliffs) & Moltsog Sand Dunes (b, L, D)

After breakfast, we will drive to Moltsog Els and explore the dunes. After that, you will visit the Flaming Cliffs - Bayanzag which is famous for the first discovery of fossilized dinosaurs. Also, this area is well known for red tall hillocks formed as a result of wind and water erosion which look like fire in the middle of the desert from a distance.

When we arrive at Ger camp, we will watch an interesting video about how Roy Chapman Andrews and the American expedition discovered the first dinosaur eggs from Bayanzag and transferred dinosaur skeletons on the camel back through the Gobi Desert. Their findings proved to the world that dinosaurs laid eggs. Then we will take 5-minute drive to the Flaming Cliffs and wander on the red hillocks. We will find bones of dinosaurs around Bayanzag. White fossilized bones are still found nowadays. Return ger camp and overnight.

day 9 - Khavtsgait Petrolyphs And Nomads Day (b, L, D)

Today we have a day trip to see Khavtsgait Petroglyphs - exceptional collection of petroglyphs dating from between 8000 BC and 3000 BC. From the parking area trailhead, a rocky path gains 120m in elevation (1822m) as it winds up littered with art. In under an hour, you’ll see petroglyphs aplenty.

Then we will visit the camel herder family in their Ger, and explore their unique nomadic lifestyle. It is a chance to try drinking Hormog (fermented Mongolian camel milk). Then we will ride a camel. Return to the camp and overnight.

day 10 - Flight To Ulaanbaatar - Gemgjos Ljam Statue Complex & Terelj National Park (b, L, D)

After breakfast we transfer to the local airport for the return flight to Ulaanbaatar city, the capital of Mongolia. Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, we will depart for Terelj National Park. This is one of the most visited national parks in Mongolia due to its natural beauty, forested alpine mountains, and interesting rock formations (Massive woolsack weathering conditions) are very well known.

On the way visit the “Genghis Khan Statue Complex” which is currently the biggest (40m high) equestrian statue in the world. There is a recreation area, restaurants, and souvenir shops occupy the base structure. From here, you can ascend to the head of the horse using an elevator abd have a good panoramic view over the complex area and the scenery beyond. You are now definitely in Genghis Khan’s country!

From here, we will take a short drive to the Ger camp in Terelj National Park for lunch and stay overnight.

In the afternoon, we will explore the national park and see Turtle Rock -an interesting rock formation looks like a turtle. Also, visit the Ariyabal meditation temple - surrounded by scenic mountains with massive rock formations and sits at the top of the mountain. From the top, you can enjoy the breathtaking view overlooking the Terelj National Park.

day 11 - Ulaanbaatar City Tour (b, L, D)

This morning we will return to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival at Ulaanbaatar city, we will visit Zaisan Memorial Hill is located in the south side of Ulaanbaatar City, right beside the Bogd Khan Mountain having a best view of the city and surrounding hills.

Next visit Bogd Khan Palace museum - the complex was a residence of the 8th Bogd Javzandamba in 19th century, the head of Mongolian religion. The palace consists of seven Summer Prayer temples and the Winter Palace.

After lunch, visit Gandan Monastery, Mongolia’s largest functioning Buddhist monastery including the Mongolian Buddhist University. The highlight of visiting to Gandan is a 26-meter-high majestic gilded indoor statue of Megjid Janraisig. Afterward, free of your choice. You can be transferred to the hotel for rest and refreshments or go shopping for souvenirs and local products, your guide will be ready to serve you for that. Suggested shopping places are the State Department store, the famous “Gobi” cashmere factory store, and “Naran Tuul” Black Market.

In the evening, we will visit the “Wonders of Mongolia” folklore show by the famous Tumen-Ekh ensemble - one of the most successful folk art groups to share traditional Mongolian music with the world, having traveled to over 40 countries.

Dinner is at “Bd’s Mongolian Barbeque” international chain restaurant.
