Itinerary

For seasoned adventurers, the Gorilla Trek Independent Adventure is a once-in-a-lifetime trip that takes you deep into the heart of Africa’s wildest landscapes. Over 3 days, journey from Kigali into the dense rainforests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to roughly half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas. Guided by local experts, you’ll trek through lush terrain and remote villages, culminating in an unforgettable close encounter with a gorilla family—a moving highlight of any explorer’s travel diary. Beyond the thrill of wildlife tracking, this tour package includes comfortable accommodations, meals, and all transportation, ensuring a seamless experience. The unique selling point is the rare opportunity to witness mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, an extraordinary moment that will remain etched in your memory.

day 1 - Kigali/Bwindi Impenetrable NP

Depart Kigali after a brief welcome meeting and drive through magnificent countryside to the border of Uganda. Once across the border, it is a short drive to Bwindi Impenetrable NP, where you can relax for the remainder of the afternoon, and prepare for tomorrow's Gorilla Trek.
The tour begins at 8am in the morning of Day 1 at your Kigali hotel (not included). Please be on time to meet your driver/guide at the front entrance of the hotel. A brief departure meeting will be held in the hotel reception area about general and specific aspects of the trip before setting off to Bwindi.

We strongly recommend arriving the day before as this trip does not include a night in Kigali.

A designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bwindi's Impenetrable Forest is a true African jungle. About half of the world's mountain gorillas live here.

Ugandan authorities are fiercely protective of this natural treasure and permit only a maximum of 8 passengers per day (currently) to visit the gorillas.

Start with a short drive to the park headquarters and meet with your excellent local guides. The guides will provide a talk on the etiquette of gorilla trekking. The trekking group will then head into the forest where the gorillas were the night before and track from that point. If desired, porters can be hired and will carry your personal items and assist you during the trek.

Smooth, Scenic, and Superbly Organized I joined a 6-Day Marangu Route hike with Kilisa Tours, and the whole experience was seamless. The accommodations in the mountain huts were cozy, and the support staff made sure we were always comfortable. Our guide shared fascinating stories about the mountain s history and wildlife. Everything ran perfectly on schedule, and the company s attention to detail was impressive. I ve done many treks before, but Kilisa Tours stands out for their genuine care and world-class service. Couldn t have asked for more!
