This city sightseeing trip is a combination of a bus tour and a walking tour of Tallinn. The bus part of this tour lasts 90 minutes and will take you around the famous Old Town of Tallinn where you can see the towers around the wall that surround the town, the most famous of which are Stout Margaret and Tall Herman. You will also get the chance to see the mighty walls of Toompea Castle, located on a hill, before continuing your journey to the main city full of modern architecture and amenities. Lastly, you will drive through the district in the city that is famous for its wooden architecture that Tallinn is famous for. See and learn more about the history of the baroque-style Kadriorg Palace and Park which Peter the Great of Russia presented to his wife.
Next, continue to the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds, a very important place for the people of Estonia, where the Estonia Song Festival is held every five years. These festival grounds are part of the Unesco World Heritage list. Continue your journey along a coastal road and enjoy a picturesque view of the Gulf of Finland. Stop at Pirita Convent (St. Brigit's Convent) and discover the story behind the ruins of this monastery. There will also be a photo stop on the coast with the best view of the Tallinn.
The bus tour comes to an end in the Old Town of Tallinn from where you will carry out the rest of the tour by foot. The old town consists of two parts, the lower town and the upper town. The upper town, which was home to noble knights, landlords and soldiers, is where you will discover two cathedrals, the Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Lutheran St Mary’s Cathedral. See the castle which hosts the Parliament of Estonia and enjoy a view of the city from one of the viewing platforms located in the upper town.
Follow Short Leg Street to lower town. Here you will see medieval merchant’s houses and learn more about why Tallinn was founded at this particular place. Travel down Long Leg Street and see St Olaf’s Church, the highest building in the world during 16th and 17th centuries. This trip comes to an end in the town hall square inside lower town. Here you can see a gothic town hall as well as the oldest functioning pharmacy in the world.
You are on your own after this trip is over. However, the guide will advise you on additional attractions, restaurants and souvenir shops located in the area. The main square of Tallinn, Liberty Square, is just 5 minutes away and the cruise harbor is just a 15-minute walk.
