Day Tour To Meidum And Dahshour - Summer Tours

Day Tour to Meidum and Dahshour - Summer tours

Go for an interesting experience and visit some of the forgotten and unknown pyramids but still very amazing in two different historical sites. First up is the Pyramid at Meidum which is thought to originally have been built for Huni, the last pharaoh of the Third Dynasty, and was continued by Sneferu. The architect was a successor to the famous Imhotep, the inventor of the stone built pyramid. Next up on the itinerary is are Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid at Dahshour. The area of Meidum is located 75 km south of Giza and it is one of the magical and forgotten places in Egypt. The unique design of the pyramid of medium is overwhelming. It is believed that the pyramid was built by king Huni, the last pharaoh of the 3rd dynasty on the style of the step pyramid at Sakkara. It consists of 8 steps on top of each other. Some scholars believe the pyramid was completed by king Snefru, founder of 4th dynasty. There are several Mastaba tombs where the beautiful statues of Ra Hotep and Nefrt were found and another Mastaba where the famous painting of medium geese was found. Meidum actually is one of the sites that still keeps a lot of secrets. The Red Pyramid is the first true pyramid of the world dating back to 2650 B.C.you will have the opportunity to enter the red pyramid and get the chance to see the three annexed chambers. The Bent Pyramid is equally unique, impressive and weird, perhaps all at once. You will also have the option to click amazing photos of these pyramids. At the end of this tour, you will head back to your hotel.

Coptic Cairo Tour With Hanging Church And Abu Serg Church - Summer Tours

Coptic Cairo Tour with Hanging Church and Abu Serg Church - Summer tours

Our representative (your guide) picks you up at 9 am from your hotel in Cairo or Giza. Discover the ancient sites and culture of Coptic Christians on a private tour through Old Cairo. Visit Abu Serga where the Holy family sort refuge, and Ben Ezra, one of the oldest synagogues in Cairo. Learn about Christian life in Egypt, a country where Christianity is a minority. The Hanging Church is built into the walls of the water gate of the Roman fortress and is possibly the oldest Christian church in Egypt. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it is one of Cairo's most beautiful churches. Continue to the Monastery and Church of St George. This is not an old church, dating from 1909, but there has been a church in Coptic Cairo dedicated to the Martyr since the 10th-century. It is one of the few remaining circular churches in the Middle East. Your next stop is the Abu Serga, one of the places where the Holy Family rested after fleeing Israel from King Herod. At the turn of the century this little church, which dates from the 10th-century, was the most important pilgrimage spot in Old Cairo for visiting Christian tourists. There are 24 marble columns lining the central court and a series of 12th-century icons depicting the 12 apostles. Ben Ezra Synagogue is one of the oldest in Egypt. Set in a beautiful garden, it was built on the site of a 4th-century Christian church. The synagogue was severely damaged by Arabs after the 1967 war with Israel, but it has been almost completely renovated. Then visit the Coptic Museum at the end of the tour. The Museum is located in an area of great historical importance within the precinct of the Babylon Fort. Occupying over 8,000 sq meters the museum features almost 16,000 objects of importance to the Copts of Egypt. This is a private tour allowing you to determine the amount of time spent at each of the sites. Moreover, you also have the chance to visit the Papyrus Institute to see how this famous artwork is made and have the chance to purchase genuine items if you wish to.

Al Fayoum & Wadi Al Rayan Day Tour From Cairo - Summer Tours

Al Fayoum & Wadi Al Rayan Day Tour from Cairo - Summer tours

Al-Fayoum Oasis is a desert basin located immediately to the west of the Nile south of Cairo. Consisting of an area of 1,270 km² (490 mi²), this unique region is full of beautiful fields watered by a channel of the Nile, the Bahr Yussef. Al Fayoum boasts of a rich Roman history and many of its attractions can be traced back to the first three centuries AD. The people of Al Fayoum and not only embalmed their dead but also placed a portrait of the deceased over the face of the mummy wrappings. The Egyptians continued their practice of burying their dead, despite the Roman preference for cremation. Preserved by the dry desert environment, these Fayoum portraits make up the richest body of portraiture to have survived from antiquity. They provide us with a window into a remarkable society of people of mixed origins such as Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Syrians, Libyans and others — that flourished 2,000 years ago in Al Fayoum. The portraits were painted on wood in a pigmented wax technique called encaustic. After meeting your guide at the hotel, you will drive for 75 minutes to get to Al Fayoum. You will then visit the museum of Karanis and the ruins of various Roman temples on the road. Drive through the fertile fields as you get closer to the Al Fayoum villages. Enjoy the fresh air surrounding the Qarun Lake, once known to be one of the biggest natural lakes in the world. Enjoy the beautiful landscapes surrounding the lake and check out nature at her best. Then, drive to the Wadi Al Rayan National Park. This park is located in the western desert and is home to the only waterfalls in Egypt. Drive back to Cairo to end the tour.

Splendours of Egypt, a Women-Only Tour - Summer tours

The only thing I would change is that the first day - coming right after most people had taken trans-oceanic flights and still had jet lag - was too demanding (flying to Luxor, touring Karnak before checking into ship). It would have been better to have a lighter Day One to allow for rest and time zone adjustment, and do Karnak on the way back. The all-women's tour group and the Tour Director were outstanding and hugely enhanced the experience. Tipping became a constant irritant and would be better if Tour Director handled tips and Insight appropriately raised the package cost, to alleviate that daily chore (ensuring correct currency & denominations, ATM visits, etc.). PS - bring American dollars in small bills. Overall, a fascinating country, knowledgeable and constantly helpful Tour Director, and a good balance of historic and current experiences. Aswan (and the Cataract Hotel) was a definite highlight, and don't pass on Abu Simbel. It is worth the cost; as is the Aswan boat tour of the Nile (two options worth doing).
