I really enjoyed the trip and the way camping was mixed into the other accommodations. However, it would have been nice to have some more options for Cape Town add-ons, even if we couldn’t do all of them. I.e see Nelson Mandela’s prison. I also think the township tour should be an inclusion. The walking safari in Zambia was a bit too expensive though, considering we only did like 30-40min of walking. was fantastic in the way he welcomed us to his home country and spoke about life in Africa.

Africa Guided And Escorted Tours: Drakensberg Giant Castle & Mandela Capture Site Tour

Drakensberg Giant Castle & Mandela Capture Site Tour

The tour starts off with a visit to Pietermaritzburg, the capital of KwaZulu Natal. There we will stop by Pietermaritzburg's City Hall, which claims to be the largest brick building in the southern hemisphere. There we will visit the Gandhi statue also before we head towards the Drakensberg mountains. We head towards the Giants Castle Reserve in Drakensburg Mountain range. Conveniently built high on the front of the Drakensberg, Giant's Castle camp is surrounded by beautiful landscape, deep valleys and grassy highlands which presents tourists with spectacular unforgettable views. Giant’s Castle Reserve has a set of sandstone caves which have been turned into an outdoor museum. The San Rock Art depicts life of the San and Khoekhoe people who lived in South Africa for 1000s of years before Bantu and European migration. Both considered ‘hunters and gatherers’, the San were more nomadic that the Khoekhoe, who started to herd cattle when introduced by the bantu people who migrated from central Africa. The San and the Khoekhoe used rock art to communicate their story between clans and people. Giants Castle’s caves is one of the best maintained Cave Rock Sites in KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa. The site has been developed for tourism and offers guided tours on the hour from 9am – 3pm daily. Only 30 minutes from the camp the leisurely trail offers guests an original cultural experience and a spectacular landscape adventure. The local guide will elaborate and display the history and culture behind some of the best-preserved artwork by the San people. Next stop will be the small town of Howick to visit its waterfall. KwaNogqaza or Howick Falls is approximately 95 m in height and lies on the Umgeni River. The local Zulu people named it the “Home of the Tall” referring to its height. Next to the falls lies a quaint old section of Howick which has a selection of historical museums and antique stores to visit. Next is the Nelson Mandela Capture Site Statue and Apartheid Museum. The Capture Site boasts a large sculpture of Nelson Mandela made up of multiply steel columns which stand between 6 and 9 metres tall. Tourists at the Capture Site are required to stand 35 meters away from the large Nelson Mandela bust for it to come into clear focus. Facing west the impressive sculpture creates a uniquely beautiful landscape for the local Howick community. The museum is dedicated to Nelson Mandela’s life and his struggle against Apartheid government.

Africa Guided And Escorted Tours: Toubkal Climb

Toubkal Climb

4.6
Although I booked this trip with little or no expectations, I have to state from the start that this was a tough trek for me and my wife. I should state here that the satisfaction of reaching the peak, individually and part of the group of fifteen that set off from basecamp, with an excellent leader and assistants, surpasses all the challenges that we encountered during the week. So some of my observations on the itinerary. The distances and elevations documented felt to me underestimated, even though they may have been accurate, the walking day was longer and more challenging than in the itinerary. I should add that the difficulty was maybe by design to ready you for the assault on the Toubkal summit. Some of the guest houses are very basic, so if you travel as a couple, don't expect to be accommodated together at night. The camping at basecamp was surprisingly comfortable, and the food prepared by the chef and his team was excellent throughout the trip. However, you must prepare yourself for the prospect of a communal hole in the ground for daily ablutions. Overall, the trip is definitely one I will never forget, and as I said above, the satisfaction gained from achieving the summit, and looking out over the vast Atlas range, was breathtaking. Not to be underestimate, but if your leaders and camaraderie of the group is the same as ours, Toubkal summit will live long in the memory.

Africa Guided And Escorted Tours: Day Tour - Giza Pyramids Memphis Sakkara & Dahshur

Day Tour - Giza Pyramids Memphis Sakkara & Dahshur

4.5
This is the best company in Egypt for tours and day trips. We visited with them (separate day trips) Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor. In Cairo, we took the long day trip on their website (visit of Giza and entrance into the Great Pyramid (inside), quad ride, Dahshur and Saqqarah pyramids, Memphis and a felucca ride. We even stopped at the papyrus museum and a parfumerie. Ahmed, our guide, was the most interesting and competent guide we ever had (and we travel a lot). In Alexandria, we had an amazing day trip (picked up from Cairo), we visited the catacombs, a mosque, the library, etc. Amazing day trip! And finally, in Luxor, we visited the Valley of the Kings, Luxor Temple, Memnon colossus, Hatchepsout temple and Karnak temple, all in one day. The food at the Paris restaurant was amazing, but the best and most amazing part was our guide, Omar Ahmed, who was incredible. Amazing experience!
