very knowledgeable tour leader. good balance between free time and tours apart from Riga, The tour felt a bit rushed and we were left on our own from mid morning . Felt it needed a bit more included. Tour leader always organised a group meal in the evening which was ideal for me , a solo traveller
Excellent tour, lots of historical places to visit. Very good guide , she was very knowledgeable and kept us fully informed. if anything she gave us too much information. In general the hotels were very good and clean, the only complaint was the limited staff on reception at the two Amberton hotels. At Klaipeda, there was only one girl on duty and I had to await over 10 minutes before she could attend to me. In Vilnius there is only an information office which closed at 8pm.
This tour is definitely for walkers. It can be fast-paced and hectic but staying at nearly all hotels for 2 nights each was excellent to recharge. Our group age was on the older side, but we were a fit bunch. Hotel locations were accessible to Old Towns and historical sights. Location allowed us to walk to museums and attend an Opera. Accommodation varied from modern and comfortable to small and Soviet style, in keeping with that town's history. The bus was too small for our group of 13. We all understood the gravity of the fuel situation, but given that tall people needed a seat to themselves and sat sideways due to lack of legroom, or those at the back sat on seats over the wheels that were back breakers, a slightly larger bus would have been preferred-especially making it easier for our amazing driver to pack luggage like a jigsaw! The guide was funny, knowledgeable, and organised. I would be happy to tour with him as a guide again. Group dinners were organised to save time but became our major expense, being Euros, and did not have to happen so often. Overall, it was an amazing, fun trip.
This was one of the first trips of the season so some museums etc ere not open but Dziugas, our excellent guide navigated round these situations well.. plenty of variety in the programme; the 3 countries all have their own individuality with histories sometimes different and sometimes divergent. Plenty of walking both in the countryside and in the cities. Interesting restaurants with good food although the service could be slow. A very good driver, always on time with a comfortable minibus.
This was our best trip yet with Explore. Th itinerary was well paced and included some great highlights. The quality of the hotels and breakfasts well exceeded our expectations. Finally, and most importantly, our guide Dziugas Vickus, was excellent - these 3 countries are steeped in fascinating history and his knowledge was fantastic. He was calm, capable and confidant with all the practicalities and all done with a good sense of humour
Had a great break over Xmas. Inna our tour leader was excellent. Very organised, lots of interesting stories and very enthusiastic. Particularly loved the little Xmas surprises we received. Will be looking for Dzuigas cheese at home. All 3 cities were lovely, with their differences, no favourite as all fantastic. Amberton Hotel in Vilnius was a very tired and being offered a room with a great view wasn't necessarily great as the church bells rang the quarter hour all night. Konventa Seta in Riga was fab as was Pakruojis Manor. Shame we didn't get to explore the manor in daylight. Park Inn in Tallinn was as expected but very corporate. Overall a great break, would recommend the tour.
